I too am all aware of possibilities of Staph following a surgical procedure. Mine occurred within three short weeks of my (successful) DBS. They removed the power pack and the wire leading to the electrodes determining at that time that all will be well. 8 weeks of wearing a bag of antibiotics and a "pic" line into my chest from my arm I was once again ready to enter the race. The power pack, now installed on the opposite side and stitches
clear across the top of my head to move the "junction box" , connection to the electrodes previously installed and waiting there like pieces of the space station.
Once again it was wonderful and life was good! Unfortunately too good. Five months after the third surgery. aka (re-connecting) I went to my neoro check-up. I made the mistake of parking in the 30 minutes time spot out front. Bad Karma••••••••. The dry scalp (exima) that I was complaining about lead to further inspection of the suture sight.
The 4th surgery (the removal part deux) of the whole thing took place within the same afternoon of parking in the 30 minute spot. It was determined that the infection must've still been [present in the leads left from the first time. Now, looking like a rawlings baseball following the removal of the wires previously moved to the other side of my skull, I went back home with the pic line and antibiotics for a few months. I knew the drill and still don't know what kept me going.
The fifth surgery was within three days of a year from the first one. My head was becoming expensive real estate. Now hooked up and tweaked successfully for over a year, I am happy to tell you I would do it all again. (except parking in the 30 minute spot •••••••• I haven't done that since)
I don't how you did ? I hear about this so many times put in take it out put in take it out ! If they do this procedure so many times why can't they get it right !
I don't know why this surgery is more subseptable to infection?
