Diabetes and Parkinsons: Anyone living with... - Cure Parkinson's
Diabetes and Parkinsons
I am a nurse and work with diabetics. I can understand how spikes in blood sugar levels would effect your energy and cognition. It is much easier to control your blood sugar levels with diet and exercize than to predict when your PD meds are going to peter out.
I have both and have yet to understand the effects these have on each other! None of my Doctors have either! They don't mention it even! But now that you bring it up I am going to ask! I'm sure there is some effect! Would only make sense! Thank you!
Blessings,
Carol
I have had type 2 Diabetes for 25yrs and PD for 11yrs. My blood sugar is never good and my PD is as expected. How ever I cant pin point any aberrations caused by a negative reaction to meds for each disease and that includes 5 injections per day of insulin.
Keep smile on your Face it could be worse you could have something like MND (ALS).

I read that Madopar can affect Blood glucose levels whether other PD medications can, but presume if most of the drugs are based on the same principle then a possibility.
I have tried to discuss and even given the doc printouts about it, but they deny any such thing. I was diagnosed as Type 2 Diabetic earlier in the year I feel sure it was the Madopar causing false blood glucose levels but of course cannot prove it.
I went on a weight loss diet and last time after blood tests and 24 pounds lost, told all was Ok, so I am not sure if I am or am not.
I have had Parkinsons for 6 years and Diabetes 2 for one year. My diabetes is controlled by diet only. However, I was interested to read that spikes in blood sugar levels can affect Parkinsons. I take Stalevo and Requip XL. What symptoms would show. Please, Please
