The answer must be no. My wife is a coeliac and I share her diet 90% of the time. I have not noticed any effect on my P symptoms.

In Coeliacs, the gluten destroys the villii in the gut which normally absorb the nutrients from food. If untreated (by cutting out the gluten from the diet), the result is malnutrition and can be fatal. It has no connection with neurological conditions.

My practioner thinks there is a connection and so do lots of articles on the internet. Its not as simple as that....not just gluten, milk and sugar, coffe tea, also need to be avoided. Im not suggesting pd sufferers are coeliac disease sufferers, but gluten plays a role. M j fox said his symptoms disappeared when following an indian food diet in India with no gluten.t

Celiac disease and Gluten intolerance are not the same thing although they both involve an inability to process Gluten . A Gluten intolerance can cause gastric distress,( as can lactose intolerance.and other food allergies) In a person with Parkinsons, anything that disturbs an already sluggish digestive system and doesn't allow nutrients to properly absorb can make symptoms worse.

I tried it for a month. Got MORE constipated. For me I just avoid white foods (flour, mostly) and eat LOTS of colorful whole foods -- berries, beets, greens, soba, whole grains.

I was diagnosed with celiac disease over 3 years ago. Then Parkinson Oct 2001. I follow a gluten free diet. Interesting if there maybe a connection. My grandson, and my son also have celiac. I am 62, my son is 36 and my grandson is 9. We were all diagnosed at the same time. They also follow a gluten free diet. My hope right now is there is no connection!

Hello 4JML

May I ask if you are still following gluten free diet and if so, has it made any difference to your Parkinson's symptoms?

Regards

Norton

Im sorry. Its just I always feel pain free if i have gluten free food and you can still eat plenty of other fiber and drink 8 glasses of water a day.

I think diet and supplements are very important ..lucille leader is the best nutritionist for parkinson and john colemans book makes sense for getting fid of symptoms naturally. I think it takes a lot of effort, exercise, diet though...you have to work on yourself emotionally as well. Good luck to all of us.

HI I found I am intolerant to Wheat, dairy products, citrus fruits and dust mite !

I have found that constipation is the biggest pain in the butt possible and no matter what I eat or take to conquer it I still have waited 3 weeks on average before I have any sign's.

I was diagnosed with irratible bowel prior to diagnosis

What I miss most of all is the previous ability to go 3 times a day !! Sad but true
