I seem to always be stretching out my arms and legs constantly I also contract my muscles in my calf's a lot when lying down and one else have this irritating movement
always stretching: I seem to always be... - Cure Parkinson's
always stretching
I also have this problem combined with pain and cramps in my calf. My Parkinsons physio suggested this exercise to help, and it does. Stand in front of something about shoulder height you can hold on to. Then stand as high on your toes as you can and hold for as long as possible. I found if painful to start with but got easier. Then reverse the procedure by going back onto your heels and stretching again. Worth a try at any rate.
Salt, bananas and quinine help cramps. While standing Stretch your leg straight onto a chair and hold for 20counts to keep calves stretched..if you can touch ankle it helps the stretch. I stand at bus stops and practice weight on heels, tiptoes..anything to bend the inflexible!,
i strech at night and immediately get horrific cramps in my calves - must try some of the excercies
Does any of you get a sharp pain under the heel when you wake , Possible to do with the natural stretch which most people do when they first wake ..
This sounds tike a tightening of your Plantar Fascia ( a ligament band that runs under your foot from the heel.) Since you are lying in bed and off your feet for a while..,this ligament, like other muscles of the body of a person with Parkinsons can contract and tighten...causing stiffness and pain. Some easy stretching of the bottom of your foot should help.
do any of you
Yes, I'm constantly stretching (and groaning out loud even in public--sorry bout that). I have to wear pants because I have to pull my knee up to my chest to relieve pain and tension, even in meetings. Not very lady like. Sorry
When I my legs tighten up I extend them so stretching help and relieves the pain. As to leg cramps (charlie horses) I pinch my lip (Pressure point) under my nose in cleft for about 30 seconds release and repeat. Use pressure but not too much This I got from a Cross Country trainer and it works
I learned some wonderful stretching exercises during physical therapy that I took for six weeks to re-establish my balance while walking, standing, etc ... My legs and arms absolutely ACHE with stiffness and these exercises ease the torment for awhile ... also drink a glass of tonic water with quinine once a day for those leg & arm cramps (seems to help a little)
I have the same problem. I stand by a wall and stretch both arms up as high as possible on tiptoes twice a day and hold for 20. Also I stand by a chair and put leg up straight and bend forwards to get as far as i can to my ankle and do the other leg in the same way...stretching calves. I also practice twiddling ankles when lying or sitting..the more often the better. If i leave it for day it gets stiffer.
This may sound od but I strecth out stomach down on the bed, usually when my meds are not working, and my legs don't want to work either. I stretch so tightly the my legs are taunt, then hold that for a minute, then I can get up an acutally walk, Not sure why but it works, I can also stretch from the wall but must be careful with balance. When at night I get this odd leg ache and can't lay any which way and sleep discomfort . I get up turn around (I don't roll over ) and lay flat on my stomach the aches go away and I sleep for awhile.
