Hamish,
You know I have had that "squeezing" feeling for a while. I thought it was my muscle disease but maybe I'm wrong. I know it's not my heart or lungs, had those checked out. I have that ache right now...
I meet my my consultant tuesday, i will be asking him, will share answers..thanks for sharing jupiterjane...
Hamish, This is just a wild guess, but here it is for what it's worth. I experienced a sustained "squeezing" pain in the chest awhile back, after starting a walking program. Having been sedentary for some time I guessed it might be lung muscles complaining about being asked to expand beyond what Parkie was accustomed to. Deep breathing excersizes cured the squeezing pain. This probably has nothing to do with your situation but it worked for me. If it's at all close, what have you got to lose?
When Parkinson's makes your muscles start to cramp, what happens is that your chest muscles are stronger than your back muscles. This causes you to hunch over forward (giving Parkinson's people that hunchback appearance), putting pressure on your lower back. It feels like your siatic back muscles hurt like heck. This also causes smaller gait when trying to walk. More Levadopa helps. Also, exercises that build up your back muscles help. I find that leaning my bottom on the backroom counter, and leaning back, helps me to straighten out, reduce freezing, and am able to walk normal for a short while. Try to lift up your chest, and pull your shoulders back as well. Cold packs seem to reduce pain and inflammation of those muscles causing all the trouble.
With PD it is very important to stretch and exercise everyday. I gained 35 lbs from the meds and am having a time losing the weight. I was also extremely tired and didn't have the energy to do anything. I started exercising and that has helped in all areas. I feel better mentally and physcially. The weight is coming off too.
Yes, I've had this in left foot and thigh since first symptom appeared. Also in abdomen. If constipated or trapped gas, it makes me feel like I'm in labor (had 4 so I remember) . I think it's dystonia. I am taking xanax when it's too painful. Otherwise just keep stretching, moving and enjoying life!!
