As per reports, it has been found that a new single shot drug has been created which will change the way by which Parkinson's disease is treated. It will be quite early to say that the injectable drug will not be less than a marvel for people suffering from the disease.
However, it can be said that the drug, which has been developed by a team of Oxford scientists, has provided promising results. Prosavin is the name of treatment and it contains virus, which can supply dopamine making genes into the brain region, which is responsible controlling the movement of whole body.
Parkinson’s disease is the one in which the brain stops producing a chemical known as dopamine. The chemical is used to control the nerves and with the passage of time, the disease severity increases and it causes tremors, and restricts the movement of body and also increases the level of stiffness.
The drug is injected into a region known as the stratium and the drug initially provides needed dopamine and then helps the brain cells to start producing their won dopamine.
One of the 15 patients who are getting the treatment across the globe is Sheila Roy. She was diagnosed with the disease in her 40’s and after living with it for last 17 years, it became difficult for to balance her body.
She had no control on her body and used to get severe tremors, all this and more problems robbed her confidence and she was unable to perform even the simple tasks, like writing. She has now been enrolled in the experiment, but her progress report is not known.
'It seems to be having an overall beneficial effect in smoothing out people's days, probably allowing a slight dose reduction in medication and in some patients a better sleep pattern and a better quality of life for all”, said Dr. Philip Buttery, from the Cambridge Centre for Brain Repair.
