Does anyone have a problem with "acid ref... - Cure Parkinson's
Does anyone have a problem with "acid reflux"... Daytime as well as night?
I've had reflux disease and Barrett’s esophagus since being told I had PD. It got better with meds, Nexium, but I believe it is back in full force.
I've read where it is part of PD.
I have recently been introduced to this book and it is one of the most practical books on nutrition and Parkinsons I have read and she deals with acid reflux.

I am not a medic so I would suggest you talk to your medical team also
I have suffered with Acid Reflux for over 20 years, but was only diagnosed with PD 5 years ago, so I do not necessarily believe the two are connected.
I have a Hiatus Hernia which has also led to Barratt's Eusophagus. (and still can't get my GP to refer me for surgery to repair the Hernia - just increases the meds each time they become less effective!).
I currently take Pantoprazole Sodium Sesquihydrate ie "Pantoprazole" 40mm twice daily plus Peptac Liquid after every meal and before bed; I still often have to sleep in a sitting position to avoid choking at night, although that is now less on these current meds. (I was formerly on Lansoprazole).
I too have acid reflux but nexium keeps it under control. I've had a hiatus hernia for at least 30 years but my sisters do too and none of them have PD.
I have suffered with Acid Reflux for years; I also have a Hiatus Hernia and Barrett's Esophagus. I have been on Nexium for years and that usually controls it. However, when I get into a bad spell my doctor will have me take a Nexium at night in addition to the one I normally take in the morning. The additional pill is normally taken for a couple weeks.
ME- TOO. 2 things that helped. I have an adjustable bed. Because of my sleep apnea I sleep on my back with my head and my knees elevated which has given me good sleep. (That sentence sounds as tho English is not my 1st language, too bad ;-9 Also the meds for reflux are not all the same. I use Prilosec, Nexium made me ill. All to say: don't give up, if something is not effective keep trying. Relief is fab.
Thank you all for the comebacks......
I also have a Hiatus Hernia...........I wonder if that has something to do with PD?
It almost figures, seeing that muscle strength is affected in so many areas such as the esophagus.
yes, same problem started last year. dx 7 y/ago. I do not think i have a Hiatal Hernia.

I have had acid reflux for longer than I care to remember. Many years before I was diagnosed with Parkinsons. I take Gaviscon Advance in liquid form which seems to suit me.
