My wife’s experience was that even when her speaking voice was soft her singing voice was louder. Try practicing musical scales. There are voice training CDs available. Voice lessons to go is one she used.

My husband had the same problem and he took tips from the LOUD program to strengthen vocal muscles. I printed out lyrics and we actually sang familiar songs each day. My singing with him help him to feel more comfortable. He also recited lists of items like the planets and vowels as practice. Also, I'd remind him to consciously project his voice as loudly as pissible whenever he could.

Did he get his voice back?

When he focused on projecting his voice louder and he practiced through singing, it helped considerably but he had to consider it part of his daily routine, just like any exercise therapy.

There is a therapy called Vital Stim - a Speech therapist (referred to me by a holistic doc) told us bout it, while the ENT dismissed it as hocus pocus. Guess what its not, they use electrical stimulation to strengthen the muscles and my mom (who had an NG tube down her throat for a few months) barely spoke or ate with her mouth is speaking and eating a bit too (thank u God). B100 - is good for energy . There are two aspects to speech - weakening of the muscles and of course levadopa fluctuations, so u got to address both!! Good luck !!

I’m sure you’ve heard this time and again, but the muscles in your throat need to be exercised like every other muscle in your body to maintain the strength in your voice. I don’t know of any supplement that will help that situation. Practice yelling your ABC’s while showering (it sounds like yelling to you, but with a weak voice not to everyone else). Read the news to yourself out loud. Sing to the radio when you drive or just in the house. If you don’t use it, you will lose it, as they say. My husband is working with a group called the Parkinson’s Voice Project which is helpful, but it’s only as helpful as much as you are willing to work on it. The other thing to think about is if you don’t keep those muscles toned, you risk the possibility of choking as those muscles weaken. So yes, if someone knows of a supplement that will help, try that, but it is no substitute for exercising those muscles. Best of luck to you!

I am very pleased to hear that! You will notice benefits far sooner than if you did supplementation alone. I wish you every success!

Hi Delboy - problems swallowing and the softening of my voice are my two most concerning PD symptoms (I was diagnosed in 2018 and luckily the disease seems to be progressing slowly). I went to my ENT and he sent me to a speech therapist who gave me swallowing exercises. I do these every day (in addition to singing).

It's important to be diligent with these as difficulty swallowing can lead to aspirating which can lead to pneumonia. I would see a speech therapist ASAP.

I don't have a problem with swallowing luckily. I started with singing therapy every day for 30 min. Thank you for your advice.
