The guy who is also exchanging blood with his teenage son and doing "penis shockwave therapy? His therapy isnt working to cure aging? Consider me shocked!
But jokes aside, I think long term mtor inhibition via rapamycin was always going to be problematic. Hyperglycaemia, immune suppression, etc..
We all tend to devote our time to something in order to give our lives greater meaning - why can’t it be life extension? While it may not work for most of us and seem strange, if it works for him then great. He would argue that it has empowered his life and made him far happier.
At high doses, rapamycin and everolimus slow cell proliferation, which decreases blood cell counts. As a result, mild and reversible thrombocytopenia (low platelet count), anemia and leukopenia are their most common side effects."
He is one totally self-absorbed dude. He is wasting his life focusing on longevity instead of quality. He cannot control the possible accidental death of his young son ~~I wonder what he would deem his quality of life to be then?
In a way, we all try to stay alive despite disease....I have the medical tax deductions for the IRS to prove it. My focus is quality of life and maintenance. I expect no cures. This chap controls nothing~! Not his call.💞
The suggestion that he is focusing on longevity vs quality seems very judgmental. Who are we to say? I think he would argue that living his regimented and fixated lifestyle works for him and improves his quality of life. If it works for him then great - and maybe there might be some useful wider implications and findings and he might inspire others to the core tenants of his protocol - diet, exercise, sleep
I have discussed this and similar others protocols and their expectations with several medical scientist. They have stated that there are several Pharmaceutical companies watching and monitoring all that Bryan Johnston does, according to them. They have regular contacts with these Pharmaceutical companies and their research departments and explained to me that what isn't common knowledge to all the general public is they see Bryan as another type of experiment without waiting several years and wasting their own money to see what compounds can do or may do or not do.
I see many people knock what he is doing however he is laying the ground work for companies to harvest information from Bryans' self experiments and try and see if they can replicate and or make some other compounds with better outcomes without spending Millions of dollars on lab mice, and or people.
At least he is not wasting his money on drugs or alcohol and then having people try to get him into some sort of rehab as most high net worth celebs do. He is hurting no one and is awaking many people into trying perhaps to live a healthier lifestyle with some of his many dietary intakes.
I wish him the best, at least he has us talking about what he does.
Well... he does state that his goal is "don't die": ‘My ultimate goal? Don’t die’: Bryan Johnson on his controversial plan to live for ever theguardian.com/society/202...
Yes. Agree that is his stated aim - but so what? He might not reach his goal but the process may still enrich his life. Satisfaction is often in the journey.
Both Rapamycin and metformin have been used for longevity, as there are lots of metabolic reasons why they may contribute to this. But both have significant possible side effects. My perspective; overall benefits don’t outweigh negatives enough to try either one. Whether or not one has PD. However, “Fatty15” is a newly discovered essential fatty acid ( omega 3 and 6 fatty acids are others), that has similar positive metabolic effects like both Rapamycin and metformin, with none of the negatives. My wife (with PD) and I have more energy since starting to take it a few months ago.
Rapamycin works on mtor. Somebody is their whole life being trying to be helpful didn’t seem like they would necessarily have a problem with him the was the average person does the fact that it doesn’t work for him doesn’t seem to me it means that much for if ultimately it is going to help. I try to cycle Mtor within the week, sometimes raising it to promote muscle growth, sometimes giving my body a break from it. I use Fatty15 because of effect on Mtor, but not Rapamycin.
