Hi fellow Parkies. Please check out the new free ParkiBot, an AI created for the Parkinson's Disease community by Composium. Ask it anything about Parkinson's Disease. Made for patients, caregivers, physicians, and researchers. It's quite a useful tool. Here's the link to the website and the YouTube video all about it.
Very impressed by the response (given by this tool) on just my first query:
In Parkinson it is to some extent established that neuronal cell death is triggered by multiple factors: alpha-synuclein fibrils, reduced levels of neurogenesis, impaired neuronal autophagy, lysosomal dysfunctions and neuro-inflammation.
Focusing on just lysosomal dysfunctions, comment on the possible effectiveness of N-acetyl-L-leucine to address lysosomal dysfunctions.
Currently research this topic and quite familiar with the source material and so can easily judge the quality of the response. It operates very much like the current frontier models in search mode in that all assertions are supported by easy reference to the source.
In this approach the problem of hallucinations with Ai are close to being vanquished. ✨👍🏾✨
The list of references, which is provided, is essential, because AI can make mistakes. Anyone doing serious research needs to confirm with the sources.
Parkibot likely has the possibility of being helpful however I have been able to find more information on my own and I did key some questions into it that came up with answers that definitely did not provide the information I was seeking but then I do tend to try a lot of approaches to find the answers I am looking for (not a criticism just the thought that sometimes it might take a variety of approaches)
It seems quite comprehensive and does not cherry pick or express “personal” opinions or judgments, for now.
An indispensable teaching tool that takes away space from many “ medical promoters”.
I asked him a question about actual flu/covid vaccines / Parkinson’s symptoms and found it quite impartial.
only flaw, like all AIs, it does not distinguish the relative importance between the data, so it must always be evaluated by us.
for example, I asked the classic question whether it would be better to use the c/l right away or to delay and it responded with various considerations on one hypothesis or the other, without making a definitive judgment.
I asked it What are the stage 3 disease modifying studies. For Ambroxol it described Ambroxol as a Novel Disease Modifying Treatment for Lewy Body Dementia.
It seemed to ignore the main disease modifying study (not dementia related).
Thank you, TrigMan59. This looks like a very useful and well-designed tool.
I experimented by asking "How can Parkinson's affect the bladder?" and after 20 seconds received a clear, detailed answer which included issues I hadn't considered/wasn't aware of.
I like that the answer comes with references, and with pointers to deeper or related issues.
Of course one shouldn't believe everything an AI says without verifying, and it's good to see a caveat included in the response.
I asked it "have any studies been completed on NR or other NAD+ precursers indicating potential value for Parkinson's patients?" The response was good and provided information on five studies that are relevant and interesting, none of which I had previously encountered. Parkibot could not tell me what underlying LLM it is built on but did tell me that it is continually updated with developments in PD research. I submitted the prompt above to a different LLM that I use for everyday searches. It also returned a good response with three different studies. Both models were helpful, but the varying responses support other commentor's cautions to check the accuracy of responses and always supplement them with further research.
If anyone would like to ask me anything about ParkiBot, please go ahead and ask (either here or in a direct message). I'm the programmer, and I was diagnosed with PD almost 9 years ago.
In the last 30 days, the system answered about 5000 queries from over 60 countries. It is a work in progress, and all inputs, whether positive or negative, (but preferably constructive!) are welcomed.
