creatine and PD

I saw an article on Web MD that referenced from many studies positive effects of creatine on Parkinson's - everything from balance to tiredness and musclewasting (sarcopenia) in older adults. Has anyone tried it? What dosage? Combined with what other supplements / drugs?

Make sure you cut out the caffeine if you start creatine: Caffeine and progression of Parkinson’s disease: A deleterious interaction with Creatine healthunlocked.com/cure-par...

To which I'll repeat my post.

From that very study:

"However, no significant association of creatine with rate of progression of PD even was detected when considering only those subjects in the low caffeine group (<300mg/day) or only those subjects with very low caffeine intake (<25mg/day)."

Furthermore, there are many problems with that study. Desperate data massaging, for one. The reliance on self-reporting "caffeinated beverage consumption" being another.

It's important to read the studies, not just the abstracts, before springing into action.

Not too sure what it does for PD, but added to my stack under the heading ‘Mitochondrial Care’

Creatine Monohydrate

Alpha Lipoic Acid

Vitamin E

CoQ10

Beet Root Extract

it helps us tremendously! If I could only have one supplement it would be creatine. There are a ton of youtube videos on creatine. They are almost all in agreement with how beneficial it is for everyone and even more so for older people.

3 mg are what we take every day. You also get creatine when you eat meat so if you’re a vegetarian it should definitely be added to your stack.

If you have breast cancer or are a breast cancer survivor, please be cautious with creatine. I don't have a link, but research is easy to find: Google "breast cancer and creatine."

I have taken 5g of creatine per day for 30 years. I used to take it as a weightlifting supplement and simply continued it as part of my general health regimen after my PD diagnosis 9 years ago. It is very beneficial for gaining and maintaining strength. I have noticed no deleterious effects, but it does work by pulling water out of your circulatory system and into your muscles, so be sure to drink plenty of water if you use it. It will also cause a slight spike in your creatinine levels, which your doctor may misinterpret as a potential kidney problem but isn't.

Bolts correct about the interaction, as I tried taking creatine while still drinking coffee. Drove my tremor through the roof and increase in brain fog. Stopped taking creatine and returned to normal after about a week. I do drink a lot of coffee though , from 6am to 10:30 daily.

I was diagnosed in June of this year, been taking creatine for the past two months, been increasing caffeine consumption last two weeks--one strong cup in the morning, one in the afternoon, as opposed to a mix of decaf and caf--and I've noticed an increase in hand tremors. Perhaps a negative interaction between caffeine and creatine? Who knows? But I'm wondering about which one to discontinue, given that each on its own is helpful in dealing with PD. BTW, I do interval walk/run and cycle on alternating days.
