We were delighted to host Dr Roberto Cilia, a renowned movement disorder specialist based in Milan, Italy, who talked to us about “Mucuna Pruriens and the future of Parkinson's care in low income countries”, followed by a Q&A session from our audience.
Please be aware that Dr Cilia does not recommend the use of mucuna if you live in a part of the world where medical levodopa is available and affordable.
The recording of the interview is available now on our YouTube channel so please take a look:
It is also now available as a Podcast on all major Podcast providers.
We will be announcing our next speaker very soon.

I think Dr Cilia is doing a great job with mucuna pruriens in developing countries, but he did create confusion with his outright dismissal of using mp-supplements in the west, as he mentioned that the dose in these supplements is more or less totally unpredictable. Who can shine some light on this (possible) issue?
To tell you the truth, it is the potential nausea that has been holding me back from trying it. I still often get nauseated from Sinemet, and the thought of feeling sicker keeps me from opening the bottle to try
It strikes me as a bit odd that he would encourage folks in non western countries to go as far as to grow their own, and yet tell us "safety first". Doesn't that seem a bit odd to you?
When I first tried it (without any meds) I got a little bit of an anxiety feeling. But that might have just been my natural progression because nnow it definitely helps with muscle tension.
Mucuna IT IS! Hubby has been on Barlowe's 40% for at least 3 years, and results exceed Sinemet's! I don't know if it's an individual thing, but I would highly recommend to try it--TRIAL/ERROR.
Even his Vanderbilt MDS had no problem with MP, actually he helped him (he was knowledgeable with all natural levedopa plants and asked us what was the type of natural levedopa he was using. He recommended adding carbidopa to MP to reach the brain. I was amazed that a major university MDS would accept and help my husband with natural levedopa.
Thank you very much. Unfortunately, Roberto Cilia has asked us to temporarily remove the recording of his webinar as he has inadvertently included research that has not yet been published. We should be able to repost the video in a few months.
The good news is that Dr Maldonado (another mucuna specialist) has agreed to speak to us next year. Unlike Dr Cilia, his approach to mucuna is not confined to low income countries and I think we will all enjoy listening to him.
