Free The Lid!

The EU in its wisdom has decided that all plastic bottles must have their tops tethered to the bottle to ensure they are recycled together.

Great idea, though I'm not convinced how much reduction in waste this will really create as I always put the lid back on anyway.

However, the actual method of "tethering" chosen by drinks companies like Coke is terrible, particularly for us Parkinson's sufferers (and I assume, other conditions that reduce manual dexterity.

The tether seems designed almost deliberately to interfere with any operation of a drinks bottle:

It makes the lid harder to unscrew.

It interferes with both pouring the liquid into a glass, as well as drinking directly from the bottle.

Finally, it makes replacing the lid FAR more difficult - this is the part I find most difficult with my Parkinson's.

I don't believe the EU took into consideration the effect of this change on people with disabilities, and therefore I think there are grounds to challenge the regulation in it's entirety. I've started a petition and I am hoping people here will sign it, but also share it on their social media.

If you are thinking you are "safe" from this crazy Euro BS because you are in America, think again...Coke are talking about expanding this world-wide.

We have these lids and they are so annoying!

Your choices seem to be have a dangling piece of plastic bouncing around your mouth making drinking feel like unnatural and awkward, or you snap it off and risk sloshing half your drink over the floor or your clothes 😡

They could always supply a soggy piece of cardboard to suck your vile synthetic drink through. Come on, is this really the best solution they can come up with?! Rather than people just putting their rubbish in the bin, or making containers out of some better material? "Plastics lids are bad, so because you can't be trusted to put all your plastic in the bin, we have joined the plastic together with more plastic"

Now don't get me wrong, I don't want to have a dolphin or what ever wearing my bottle cap as a hat or choking on it or something, and I'm sure Google can provide a plethora of pictures of the savagery of the bottle cap, but how much is this going to help? Seems like a "We're trying to save the world" non-solution, while simultaneously blaming the public, when there are far greater atrocities being committed by massive corporations everyday!

Sorry obviously didn't realise how much these annoying bottle caps were were affecting me 😂😂😂

I find them worse, in the middle of the night, reaching for that bottled water, to clear the throat or water down the medication [fast?] catch your mouth on the 'cap'😱water on the bed, bad temper🤧😤rest of the night😖

I understand your feeling. People in the US also get their jollies from changing things got the thrill of power with lots of added cost and no discernible gain, In this case you might want to go back to the ancient art of preparing your own water or soft drinks like lemonade or ice tea .we use thermal stainless steel bottles, lidded mugs, jugs, cups, or canteens. We even have stainless steel reuseable strsws! Healthier, less expensive, free of sinister additives … and they don’t get your money!

Aldi's Cold Press juice drink has that type of lid.Have you contacted Parkinsons.org or any of the other Parkinsons organisations about it.

I contacted them WWP received her co-careldopa tablets in a child lock container instead of the usual blister pack form.

They were not aware it was being supplied this way.

I don’t drink out of plastic bottles.

Even if you pour into a glass, the tethered lid gets in the way.

I get it but I do not buy plastic bottles. I stay away from plastic as much as possible. We installed a RO system and that’s the only water I drink.

We have one of those too. They are amazing.

As far as I can see from Laurie Mischley’s list of things not to take anything that comes in a plastic bottle is bad anyway. Switch to filtered water.

If you've signed, please also share the petition on social media as that's the most effective way to publicise it.

The pro diet by Dr.Laurie Mischley AVOID list is drinks in plastic bottles. Plastic leaches into everything. I just spent a good deal of time trying to find olive oil not in plastic. Try to avoid if possible.

Well documented. Aluminum as well.

I accept that NOT using plastic bottles at all has advantages, but it's not something that's possible for all. Whilst we have them, they should at least be as user friendly as possible, and certainly not being made deliberately less so in the name of a questionable cause in terms of level of effect.

More knowledge about the effects of micro plastics will come to eliminate plastic bottles use completely. Glass bottles will be back. The kids will be buying candy again with the bottle return deposit . Glass is very easy to recycle and cheap to make or it can be just washed out with steam and reused.

That is probably what they are trying to encourage by making it difficult to use just like like cigerette packages here that they forced the manufacturer to make the package have gross pictures and be difficult to unwrap , childish and useless but they ( Govt. department of people who know best how everyone else should live) did it anyway.

In our area - you CANNOT include the lid - they are too small for the separation apparatus - mist be placed in the garbage or an thole container may be rejected. Are these people that stupid?

not stupid , arrogant , woke, special, between you and me they are mostly women who filled in the token placements and now have a bit of authority to show . The U S is about to make one president. God help us.

You're not the first to note that. Manchester in the UK specifies that tops must be removed to recycle. This legislation is poorly thought out and poorly implemented in many ways.
