I’m heading to a conference later today where some knowledgable Parkinsons researchers and doctors will be present. So if I get the opportunity, I will try to ask these experts some questions. (I always have a handful rolling around in my brain )
My question to you HU researchers, PWP or caregivers:, What burning questions do you have for the Parkinson’s experts?
Please ask if they know if general neuroplasticity from healthy lifestyle adjustments and the like are enough to undo (reverse) dopaminergic related damage or would it just slow down further damage? Can neural connections be repaired?

Correcting Mitochondrial Dysfunction,

Increased Cellular Energy Production.

Why isn’t there more emphasis on the phenomenal affect diet can have on PD and/or the efficacy of medication. I am not talking about ‘not eating an hour before or after meds’. I only ask because I saw my new neurologist on Monday and showed him videos of how I went from people feeding me to being back at work by eating mostly veg in small to medium portions but rather than saying ‘if you who knows nothing about nutrition can get this far, let’s see what further benefits a professional could make?’ he told me that DBS or an implanted pump were possibilities for me in future. FFS!!! (I do try not to bang on about it – but I get so angry.) P.S. I know PD is a personal disease and diet won’t be the answer for many/all.
I hear ya! My husband is 85yo and a doc says maybe you should have DBS surgery.
Told him absolutely not / he doesn't have tremors which would be a main reason for the surgery and 2nd of all we are trying our best to avoid hospitals!
Why does nobody talk about what fast walking can do for PD? It is the best way to reverse the effects of PD. It beats MEDICATION AND IT COSTS NOTHING!
I have had Pd since 1992 and am still walking at the age of 89.

That is a great question to ask the experts! I would also ask about sugar and its connection to brain degradation.
I want to hear more from “experts” about the relationship of the gut microbiome on PD. Can improving the gut microbiome through probiotics slow or stop PDs progression?
There’s quite a lot of research at UBC involving the gut microbiome. I’ll try to make a post about what was presented.
Some of the research going on at the Parkinson’s centre is on the following topics:
-Probiotic treatment for subjective and mild cognitive impairment in PD
-Mediterranean ketogenic, dietary intervention
-Longitudinal Microbiome study in PD and rem sleep behaviour disorder
-The mind diets association with anti-inflammatory gut microbial patterns in PD cohort
I’m hoping they will have more studies and published papers on these studies that I can understand.

If I weren’t so disabled at times with walking and talking ,I would’ve been able to stride up to the front of the room and then ask an audible, intelligible question or two ,and if time allowed ,some questions from you gang ! But despite my best efforts, I was sleepy and a little bit wonky with my gait, and I was also seated too far at the back of the room. Always interesting to hear what people are curious about on this forum. Some of the most informed people about Parkinson’s and my best teachers are here on HU!
