Night time awake: extra doses?

rebtar profile image
24 Replies

I don't know how to handle early awakenings (anywhere from 1am to 5am) and extra doses. I know many of us spend time awake at night. If you are getting up "early", do you take extra doses for that awake time? How do you fit this in with your regular schedule, especially If you're trying to not watch the clock? Maybe seems like a novice question, but after years of insomnia, I still don't know how to handle this. Thanks for helping.

Personally I abide in Divine Bliss Chi meditation. On those rare occasions when I sleep in I miss it. See: healthunlocked.com/cure-par...

Within the past month or two, I have taken a 25/100 Carbidopa Levodopa in the middle of the night if I am troubled by insomnia. It may be placebo effect, but it definitely helps me get back to sleep. This is not an every night issue... maybe two or three nights a week.

My husband has been able to get back to sleep in the past by taking an extra 100/25 IR as well. But recently we actually made his last dose at night less one of the 200/50. This was working a treat for the last 3 months..... The only thing that wakes him now is needing to 'pee'. 😀

Without any sleep medications, I sleep about 3 hours per night. All the OTC medicines I have tried either do not help or do not keep me asleep for more than 4 hours. Ambien works, but is not recommended for every day use.

What works for me is cannabis. Specifically, an oil-based tincture containing THC, CBN, and CBD in a 4:1:1 ratio. I find that low doses greatly improve my sleep without any noticeable psychoactive effects. Now I sleep about 6-7 hours per night. After using it for a while, I develop a tolerance to it and have to take a 1 month break from it to make it work again.

I experience same with THC AND CBN I also develop a tolerance quickly. Thc and cbn work best for me 10 mg each

What works best for me is staying up till 11 pm, but often difficult. If I get up around 2-3 am (often) I take 1 50/200 ER. Often helps but not always

I did use delta 8 but discontinued as it is not compatible with one of my prescriptions. Please check before trying it.

How do you handle the month break? I stop and don't sleep at all!

Please see my previous post on this: I combine THC with very small doses (25 mg) of Sinemet on a couple of occasions per night. This has helped me regain the ability to sleep after months of insomnia.

Grapefruit juice, 500 ml at 6pm works for me, giving 6 rather than 4 hr sleep. But it is not wise to use it daily.

neurotalk.org/parkinson-s-d...

grapefruit juice contains bergamottin that inhibits intestine an important cytochrome-P ( Cyp3A4). L-DOPA is oxidised and inactivated by Cyp3A4. More here:

NB grapefruit juice is dangerous to use with a range of drugs in common use.

6 Mg melatonin (up to 12mg is absolute fine I've been expertly informed), Magnesium and Vit D before bed. I sleep much better. Without it, hourly wake if I'm lucky. Clock watching at night makes everything worse too.

I take magnesium calcium D3 turmeric minerals before bed. Seems like I’m awake every one or two hours to go to the bathroom because I’ve been told that I need to stay hydrated. Very frustrating not getting straight nights sleep

What you drink during the day isn't enough?

When I wake up and am stiff and can't get back to sleep I take 1/4 of a carbidopa Levodopa tablet and wait usually about 30 minutes and can get comfortable and back to sleep. Some nights I have to do it a couple of times and some nights I sleep right through.

I have OH and supine hypertension at night. Actually my systolic is about 150-170 within 30 min of going to bed but it only lasts several hours and is 120-140 by 7 am. My doctor said not to worry about it. I take droxidopa mid-day for the OH

Thanks to all of you for answers. I know all of these, and use several. My question was more if you take C/L at night do you then continue your regular daytime schedule? I guess so ?

Yes. If I take an additional dose at night, I still take my normal doses the next day.

I have tried taking a tablet at night when awake and next day has been a torture. I would advise against it if you can. Do consult with your doctor.

I take my last dose of Rytary around 9PM. I usually wake up to go to the bathroom x1. If it's during the 1 AM - 3AM interval, I take a1/2 to 3/4 CL25/100, plus Rytary 145MG. If it's later than 3AM, I just take 3/4 CL. I usually go back to sleep until 7AM and start my regular Rytary dosing then. Doing this helps me to avoid waking in a panicky state.

This is exactly what my dad does too and it works pretty well.

Here's how I prevent night awakenings -- and how I intervene when they do happen...

To Prevent

1. Get plenty of exercise. The Arc Trainer at Planet Fitness is super gentle on the knees and it allows me to have extended aerobic time like no other machine ! !

2. Fresh air and sunshine everyday, walking at least 30 or 40 minutes.

3. 1/3 or 1/2 cup of sheep kefir or buffalo kefir before bed with a kiwi fruit. I also take one capsule of magnesium bisclycinate to relax my muscles.

To Intervene

(Sometimes I wake up at 2:00 or 3:00 in the morning.)

1. I get on my vibration plate -- a strong and heavy machine that vibrates my body, especially feet and legs. For the 5 or 6 minutes that I stand on it I do need deep knee bends, holding myself up with the walls of my closet.

2. Sometimes I just use a portable massager - a handheld but pretty heavy duty vibrator (on the highest setting) to massage my back, face and everywhere I can reach with it.

3. To get back to sleep, I pray for the good Lord to give me rest. Then I turn on a podcast (audio only, low volume). it gives me something to focus on externally. Don't choose topicds that will engage you too much. A good one is called "boring stories." Or picked trigonometry or planting a herb garden.

Try all of these things, and hopefully some of them will benefit you like the benefit me.
