Next-generation gloves for vibrotectal coordinated reset -- wishlist

Having used vCR gloves for the last couple of months, I realized a few things, most importantly: (1) the gloves work and help to reduce PD symptoms. (2) in order to do that, they have to be worn for a long time, several hours every day, over many months.

These two points combined also mean that I will continue to wear the gloves for long periods in the future, possibly for the rest of my life. To that end, these gloves should be much more practical than the ones used in the previous trials by Peter Tass / Synergic or most of the DIY models discussed on this forum. So I thought it may be interesting to start a wishlist of the features that vCR glove users would like to have (and that perhaps would also encourage them to use their gloves as much as possible)?

For starters, the gloves should be untethered and fully mobile, i.e., come with their own rechargeable, long-lasting battery supply.

Likewise, the glove controller should be mobile, and ideally not just control and record the parameters and duration of stimulation sessions, but also integrate this information with health apps on wearable devices that monitor potential changes in symptoms. The most straightforward way to implement this would be to have the controller as an app on your smart phone or smart watch.

Moreover, given that the gloves have to be worn for such long periods every day, they should be more compatible with manipulating objects, typing, using touchscreens, etc., than the current models.

So, what are the features that you would like to see in your next-generation gloves?

Hi, are the gloves you used the ones in the photo?

Yeah, I guess then I would feel like RoboCop😄. — No, I am afraid it’s just a hallucination by DALL.E / ChatGPT of what next-gen vCR gloves might look like.

Where did you get the inspiration to build your gloves? Thank you very much.

My primary objections with the designs I have seen are that the fingertips are covered. This makes it more difficult to use a phone, mouse, or keyboard. Also harder to eat finger-food.

In this video Peter Tass is talking about the upcoming trials.

nice, very contextual.IMO it should have a way to calibrate the intensity of the vibration to match the individual perception threshold.

I am not sure if it is in this video or another one but I think I remember that Peter Tass said that the gloves were being redesigned to make them less bulky and cumbersome. Also it sounds like they will be trying to do a lot of analysis and measurements in the pilot trials so that adjustments can be made to make the gloves more effective

Indeed, Peter Tass recently announed a new mobile version of the gloves, starting around 46:20 in this presentation:

They may already fulfill a number of the above spec requests, and I am sure that in the Tass team a lot of thinking goes into how to make the gloves better and more practical.

Still, it will be several years until we can put our hands on these new gloves (pardon the pun), so from a user perspective, and also for the DIY glove community, it may still be interesting to think about design improvements and additional features.

Very good ideas. While it's off in the future, my v2 of FreedomWave gloves will be wireless, each with it's own power supply and controller, connected to each other and a phone by Bluetooth. I still need to finish v1 so that will take a while.

I find it fascinating that you’re able to make your own gloves! I have zero understanding of making your own gloves but If you ever need a guinea pig I will volunteer!!
