The following article claims that the majority of "Parkinson's Disease" is started by just a simple bacteria called Desulfovibrio, and the rest about 10 percent is caused by individual genes.
Parkinson's disease could be prevented in the future after scientists discovered that a certain strain of bacteria in the gut is the likely cause in the majority of cases.
Researchers discovered that these bacteria, called Desulfovibrio, can be detected and removed which could prevent the disease. Parkinson's is a progressive illness that occurs after the brain becomes damaged over a number of years, causing slowness and tremors.
Per Saris of Finland is working on detecting desulfovibrio and other research related to it. I also found out that some of the companies that do microbiome tests with the goal of developing personalized probiotics can detect desulfovibrio with their tests. Sun Genomics told me that their evaluation can detect desulfovibrio. Per Saris is currently doing research to try to find out how the desulfovibrio is acquired.
The way the body handles alpha synuclein is in a state of precarious balance that is easily upset. Numerous genetic mutations involving alpha synuclein are known to cause Parkinson's in humans. Test animals modified to carry these genetic mutations also exhibit Parkinson's impairments.
There are also a number of toxicants known to cause Parkinson's.
Could this bacteria be yet another cause? Yes, but just another item on the list.
The same bacteria has been linked to other illnesses, including autism, periodontal illness, liver disease, and autoimmune diseases: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...
Well I wonder if several of them don't lead to some sort of common denominator involving oxidative stress. Except for the alpha synuclein and the guy was talking about "too much" dopamine.
But speculating about "majority" at this stage is a little melodramatic.
I think this is now going to be my reply to any speculation about any one thing causing PD. It's more like all of the above... and it would be helpful to everyone I think, if people were able to collectively accept this possibility . Also that we may not ever find out which of the many things caused it. Also that the thing we BELIEVE is going to cure us, probably WILL.
"The present study demonstrated that chronic intake of pistachio exerts beneficial effects in obese mice by alleviating inflammation in adipose tissues and liver, and impacting the gut microbiome composition. In particular, it enhances the abundance of beneficial bacteria genera, such as Lactobacillus, Dorea, Allobaculum, and inhibited the growth of bacteria associated with obesity-related comorbidities and inflammation, such as Desulfovibrio and Bilophila."
I eat more pistachios than anybody that does not own a pistachio farm.
