Sinemet and nausea.

I am forced to break my Sinemet 100+25 pill into two parts and to space out the intake for a few hours because a whole one causes me severe nausea. Does anyone out there have the same problem? And how did you solve it?

I feel your I feel your pain !I was diagnosed in 2019 And could never take the sinament without being nauseous.I ended up stopping my doses during the day and only taking my extended dose at night to fight the distonia that I suffer with.

Can you manage without Levodopa during the day?

Not well but it’s either deal with it or spend all day vomiting 🤢

my doctor added a 25mg Carbadopa. Never sick since. Now don’t need it. I take 2 25/100 four times daily without any issues.

Crush mine and mix with ground flaxseed and v8 vegetable juice.

Did you solve this way? Same method for subsequent intakes?

Yes

I like V8 also with my meds or another thick juice. Sometimes a cracker or two before. Only for 1st dose in AM. Otherwise there's enough food in my stomach.

What is the V8?

A supermarket vegetable juice with 8 different veggies.

The immediate release made me horribly nauseous. I switched to the same dosage in Carbidopa/Levodapa ER tablets. No more nausea. I have been on them with no other pills. Mary

Thank you, what effect does the ER version have on the PD?

I wonder whether you could try Madopar instead of Sinemet?

Thank you, hard to say, I've been taking Sinemet for five years. What are the effects of Madopar compared to Sinemet?

Madopar seems to work better for me, but gives me diarrhoea.

Sinemet doesn’t give me diarrhoea, but sometimes stomach cramp.

Interesting, thanks.

Buckholt may have a point.A study on Sinemet v madopar found:

The effect of the two schedules on the Parkinsonian symptoms were equal and appeared equally fast. The frequency of gastrointestinal side-effects and involuntary movements were significantly higher and more severe for Sinemet than for Madopar.

Great, thank you very much. I talk to the neurologist.

I had similar nausea when I started on Sinemet, also stomach cramps, but I stuck with it and eventually my digestive system just got used to it. I get occasional mild nausea now, but nothing is severe as the first several months. I don't know if this is a common pattern.

I got tested and treated for H-pylori and it was a game changer

I took an extra Carpidopa and that really helped.

Sinemet 100+25 (+25)?

if its not cr put it into applesauce crushed , the pectin in the asauce reduces bile output from gall bladder...take it with fruit or a smoothie...youll get used to it in no time and likely not have the issue. but some of us are sensitive to meds in general let alone sinemet...hang tough

I dipped a cotton ball in rubbing alcohol ( make sure it isn’t saturated) and then smelled it. As crazy as it sounds it worked in helping with nausea. I think it tricks the brain. I learned this trick when I first was dx in 2014.

I have the same problem and nothing has helped. Now dr. said to take cd/ld with my food and it only helps very slightly. Still feel queasy (and headache) some of the time but not aways.

Fed1000 profile image

You could split the cd/ld in two parts like I did. In this way the nausea is reduced, unfortunately the assumptions are multiplied.
