I posted and I bet people wondered what this had to do with PD? Well I used a flux-core welder for 35 years. Flux is made of manganese. 100 years ago manganese poisoning was known as welders disease. And I never used a mask. Welding chore is done and so far as I sit in the chair it hasn't popped loose again.

Me again, sorry. One of the most common signs of PD is weight loss. But since being Dx'd with PD I've put on 40 pounds. (22kg) And I don't seem to be able to lose the weight. As I sit in my repaired chair I'm wondering what about PD could explain the weight gain???

You are in a difficult situation Kevin. Everything indicates that your diagnosis is incorrect. 😅Or that you are now symptom-free and you come on the list with corrifies such as John Pepper and others. Yet in both cases there is a good chance that you will soon be diagnosed with PD...

No, serious, probably even more people who have weight gain with PD will report. The causes can be many, because for PD, weight gain can also occur with improved functioning of the medication. But it can also be the result to many other factors, often due to eating and drinking more calories than being burned by exercising daily, sometimes other factors are also at the origin of continuous weight gain, such as the use of certain medication or due to an underlying condition, such as:
Bacterial overgrowth in small intestine
Side effects of medication
Cushing syndrome
Diabetes mellitus (diabetes)
Ovarian cancer
Electrolyte disfunction
Heart failure
Hormonale changes
Menopause
Menstruation
Polycystic ovary syndrome
Pregnancy
Insulin resistance
Cirrhosis of the liver
Metabolic syndrome
Kidney failure
Thyroid problems
Too slow acting thyroid
Hashimoto's disease
Quit smoking
Stress, anxiety and depressed mood
Fatigue and lack of sleep
Fluid retention and thickening.
So you can already cross out some of these complaints, but there are still plenty left...
Husband was a welder also for over 25 years. Diagnosed with PD at 46, now 70. We always felt the PD was caused from welding... which he loved to do. He had DBS surgery in 2014 and put on weight because the tremors became almost non-existent. Before that he was losing weight rapidly with the tremors. Now he's not active at all with balance issues and rigidity so weight doesn't come off easy at all.
My brother welded and had PD. I read somewhere that it can cause dopamine neuron destruction
Welding flux has a lot of manganese. The first cases of PD were in manganese miners.
