Ropinirole ( Requip) Ontario Parkinson's

I have Parkinsons and I have been using Ropinirole also known as Requip for about 13 years. It is an Agonist , that helps the effects of Levadopa last longer. I also have been using Amantadine for the same thing but its effectiveness may have worn off. I was doing OK and then the company GlaxoSmithKline discontinued manufacturing Ropinirole. We have checked many pharmacies and we are told that they do not have any and can not get it as it is not available in Canada in any strength or form .

I have tried Pramipexole and Neupro Rotigotine patches as alternatives but can not take them due to severe side effects.

My neurologist says we are out of options and I will be trying a change of schedule . I will now be taking one (1) levadopa/carbadopa 25 mg / 100 mg, every 1-1/2 hours.

Is there anyone who is in Ontario (OHIP) that knows of a drug store that has any or can get it. I am trying to find out the process to obtain it out of province.

Hi Gymbag. This is laglag. I’m not in Canada but I have a suggestion. Talk to your pharmacist and tell him/her the problem and they can call around to other pharmacies to see if they have any leftover stock they haven’t distributed yet and they can send it to your pharmacy and/or you can call around to different pharmacies and ask them yourself and ask them to check with their other stores.

Another option is to call the manufacturer and ask them if they know of someone else manufacturers it.

Might be worth a try?? I’ve had some luck with using both those methods. 🥊🥊

Our Pharmacies is calling and so are we but no cigar yet.

Oh I wish I had not said that , I would love a big fat cigar right now.

I’m taking c/l 25/100 with 200 mg of Entacapone 4 x daily. It helps to lengthen the c/l.

I take ropinerole as well, When I asked my dr about it, he said that I happen to take the generic brand- which I imagine youd be able to get, no problem....
