Mitochondrial Dysfunction and Parkinson’s Disease—Near-Infrared Photobiomodulation as a Potential Therapeutic Strategy

This article references the 830 nm near infrared that is in the inexpensive red light hat I posted about earlier.

frontiersin.org/articles/10...

The red light LEDs are 660 nm and the article references 670 nm, but hey it's half of them that are to the nm.

Well, it's kind of interesting just because it's a lot cheaper than the one I bought (Well Red's Dual Coronet). I have a few doubts and questions. First, what is the combined wattage? This would tell us if it has a chance of penetrating deeply enough. As has been pointed out by others before now, the chances of light getting all the way through the outer layers of skin, fluid, and bone to reach the mitochondria in the damaged dopamine cells are very low. However, it's been fairly recently discovered that mitochondria can and do move from cell to cell via the blood vessels. So, if we assume that we're "charging up" these mitochondria as they move then we need less powerful light and only need to get through to the blood vessels within the brain. I'd have to search to find the power of the lights in the Dual Coronet. Otherwise, the two products are similar in features. One reason that I doubt this product isn't as powerful is that there's no way for heat to escape from the hat, which appears to be insulated, keeping the heat in, not away.

They say that it's designed for thermally sensitive p[eople. I suppose they had some customers who had heat build-up (or were worried about it). Either there's a hidden mechanism (like a small fan) that keeps heat from building up, or the lights aren't very powerful.

Still, it's a lot cheaper and might do something useful?

I don't know how many combined watts it produces. It has 60 red light LEDs and 60 Near IR LEDs. I do know my head is warm after 20 minutes of use. Are there different wattages for the LED lights?

Thank you PDTom. It is nice they put the protocol and Joules in the report. It seems PBM does have some promise.

I have read that with Chinese made light systems that hey may or may not be what they advertise

I guess this was a poorly written post as the emphasis has shifted away from the article frontiersin.org/articles/10... to the quality of the inexpensive red light therapy hat that I put a link to Amazon for. I have no interest in people buying the hat or spending more for a different one. I was trying to show there was research for PBM for Parkinson's and offer a chance for people that didn't have the budget for the more expensive. I can say that some products from China are not what they should be, but some are. I am happy with the inexpensive alternative. I like the pulse of 40HZ and am using it to support my brain for several things other tan PD
