Vertigo and PD?

I found a 2021 study with this: Conclusion: Prodromal otological symptoms might be associated with a reduced risk of motor progression in PD.

Anyone know how often vertigo is a sign of PD? Last few days I've had small bouts of vertigo. Without warning the room begins to swim. Or rather it rotates.

Five years ago I had my first bout of vertigo. I was visiting family in Colorado. Ended up in the emergency ward with an MRI that suggested MS. I took high doses of IV steroids for three days. Later a dominant hand tremor led to a PD diagnosis. But the vertigo abated and I never developed other signs associated with PD: No slowness, no freezing, no balance problems. One neuro said there's no rule you can't have BOTH diseases.

Same here. Had vertigo. Went away. Got Parkinsons and a deaf ear with ringing.

I guess the emergency room doctors were thinking of benign paroxysmal disease? I had to lay on a table that could be tilted. But I was in too much pain to lay down; I was cursing so much that the nurses were afraid to get near me. Instead they put me in a hospital bed and started an IV.

Absolutely! One can have both diseases! I, sometimes, have vertigo, and have had balance problems. I have been diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease, and Cerebellar Ataxia, caused by two different neurological pathologies!

I have had bouts of vertigo on occasion for a few years now. Diagnosed with PD 3 years ago. Its mainly when I have to look down really deep sewer holes or storm water drains. Never had an issue till the PD was diagnosed. Still doing my job just a lot more careful these days.

"when I have to look down really deep sewer holes ..." I wear sweatpants a lot. When bending at the neck to tie the drawstring I've had vertigo attacks so I hold the wall as it happens. think it's the semicircular canal that's involved.

I have had vertigo twice since I was diagnosed. I kept thinking it was my neck stenosis and a fall I had where I landed on the very spot where my stenosis is. The last vertigo I had was a direct result of cracking my neck while in bed. Whole room spun. My PT did the epley on me, and it resolved for the most part. I feel tiny bits of it when I bend over sometimes.

I was hospitalized several times with severe vertigo as well. Followed by Orthostatic, hypotension , and then tremor and a PD diagnosis. My motor symptoms have progressed slowly. Could you please post a link to the 2021 study you mentioned?

I have had vertigo a couple of times since diagnosis. My chiropractor has a procedure to treat it that works well for me. Apart from relieving the horrible sensation, he says that, even for mild symptoms (eg when rolling over) the treatment removes some of the “extra rocks in the backpack” that PwP must deal with every day Maybe it’s worth investigating?
