I was dx'd 3 years ago. I take Rytary. I've had a resting tremor in my dominant arm for 4 years. I have lousy handwriting, I don't have stiffness or slowness or balance problems. For the past few days I go to bed at 3AM but I wake 3 hours later. I might nap for an hour in the afternoon. I've read that not sleeping can be a sign of PD. Is this how it develops? Suddenly not sleeping the usual amount? Any remedies for this?
TIA,
kevin

I've had good success with Honokiol and Indica THC. My personal tolerance level for THC is low, about 1mg, so I recommend starting slowly and ramping up. When I wake up in the middle of the night, I take a small additional dose of each. I source my Honokiol from MCS Formulas in the Netherlands and take 3 250mg capsules at bedtime and 1 or 2 more during the night if needed. I went from 1-3 broken hours of sleep per night at the beginning of this year to 5-8 hours of sleep per night, rarely waking more than once. If you're taking Rasagiline, use caution if combining with Honokiol as it may increase the CNS depressant effects. As mentioned by other posters here, some studies indicate that Honokiol may also have positive disease modifying effects in PD.
Insomnia is definitely a Parkinson's symptom and in my experience it can come on suddenly. Levodopa helped to mitigate this, but you are already taking Rytary.
I definitely recommend getting to bed before midnight to work with your natural body biorhythms. When I need additional help sleeping I use Valerian root, an over-the-counter herb.
