Zzzzzzzzzzz....

For 11 years I coped with chronic insomnia, I've been DX 12 years.

Everyone told me PD disrupts your sleep pattern so I accepted it. I adjusted to 3 hours a night, filling my time positively and usefully. I just have long days ! I'd joke!

I never took sleeping pills. In my opinion it's the wrong kind of sleep.

Plus who wants another drug we all rattle as it is.

3 months ago I had reason to change my drugs. It meant cutting one out completely. After 4 weeks I suddenly noticed my sleep improving, I began to dream, amazing. Now I'm 8 weeks in and have a near normal sleep pattern.

I no longer look like a ghost!

This is just a personal account, I have no medical qualifications.

I just thought it useful to share !

Me with sleep!

It wasn't easy at all, hence my cautiousness

But well worth it

:-) again !

what was the change in drugs that you feel has caused the change in your sleep? Did you have insomnia or Restless Leg Syndrome?

in reply to

I stopped Mirapexin

No, no restless legs

in reply to

Its called Mirapex in Canada and I am taking small dose for RLS as well as the Sinemet. I've had numerous unpleasant side effects but haven't been able yet to stop Mirapex. What side effects did you experience?

in reply to

Horrendous ... Hallucinations, compulsive spending, paranoia, low self esteem, suicidal..... The list goes on...

All completely gone now :-)

Slow recovery but 1000 times better

in reply to

I wud be interested to know why you were prescribed Mirapex in the first place, and how long you took it. Thank you for being open to such discussion.

in reply to

Mirapex works

The rest is a long story

I found once I stopped giving John the neupro patch his choking at night eased .

I stopped Mirapexin

But please do NOT make any changes to your medication without consulting your Neuro team. This drug does greatly improved motor symptoms but it couldn't tolerate it anymore, I believe it's use should be very strictly controlled.

It does not necessarily follow that sleep improvement is a given if you remove it, but it is what happened in my case.

For me the benefits of not taking it significantly and overwhelmingly now out weight its effect.

Have you tried taking Melatonin? It's a natural hormone produce by the body for sleeping. I take between 1 to 3 mg when I have had 1 or 2 consecutive bad night. It's OTC and no side effects, take 1 hour before intended sleep. Can get up to bathroom and immediately go back to sleep m

in reply toTato

Thank you so kindly for thinking of me but I do t need it. :-) my sleep has come back, hurrah :-)

Say, does it help restless leg syndrome?

That is so interesting! Here's hoping it lasts and that you get many nights of deep, uninterrupted sleep. :-)

What are you taking that gives you near-normal sleep. I would almost do anything for near-normal sleep.

in reply toracerCP

It's not what I am taking it's what I no longer take. Since I stopped one drug my sleep has slowly returned :-)
