Has anyone tried seeing a functional neurologist? I started seeing one in New Jersey. So far, so good. It's like going to a brain gym.
Functional Neurology : Has anyone tried... - Cure Parkinson's
Functional Neurology
Hi, I'm looking for one in NJ too. Can you tell me who you've found ? Thanks
my husband saw a functional neurologist this past Tuesday so I am interested in what the functional neurologist you saw is having you do to help - the functional neurologist he saw had the training offered by Dr. Carrick. Did you see Dr. Carrick?
My doctor is Dr Eric Kaplan who was trained by Dr Carrick. Some exercises I did was being spun around on a chair while I look up and down. Smelling essential oil in left nostril while hand is moving palm side down and up. Walking with exaggerated arm swings. Memory games on video screen. Moving arms and legs in infinity motion., etc. Visit took 4 hours. I will go once a week.
I'm curious to know how your husband does.
my husband has three exercises to do - one is optidrum, one is focus on an object with your eyes and move your head up and down, the third involves touching points on the legs and arms and the purpose is to make walking and balance better. Maybe you have seen the exercise where they have a person walk across a floor with stripes of tape and then the person can walk more smoothly. Our functional neurologist has had the training by Dr. Carrick and she is also a chiropractor and acupuncture practitioner so there are other things that are not functional neurology that will be tried. Our practitioner says that qi gong is a good idea plus Dance for Parkinson's because of the movements involved. My husband also does some walking and he rides the exercise bike. He will also have some TCM remedies but that has not started yet.
Thank you!
How long have you been with the functional neurologist?
What improvements have you noticed?
Is it expensive to see one?
I would be interested to consult one in S Fco Bay area
Many thanks
♡
I've only had one visit. Initial consult was $400. Visits after that are $150. I haven't submitted to my insurance yet, to see if it's covered. I believe my hand tremor is less. It could be a placebo affect or actually working. I don't care because I feel like I'm being proactive. Good luck.
Neuro Axis Health is in SF (sfchiro.com). Please let me know if you try them out - would be interested to see how they can help my hwp. Thanks
Sounds interesting!
I have seen a functional neurologist in Brownsville Texas. He focuses (pun intended) a lot on eye movement, or the lack of it, which relates to which brain neutrons are not functioning properly. I’m not sure if the treatment really helped me but it gave me insights into my situation. He’s also a chiropractor which Treatment I do regularly.
YOU ARE SO LUCKY TO FIND ONE NEAR YOU! My former neurologist was traditionally trained, but very, well educated on studies, etc. She recommended that I go vegetarian and take several neuro supplements that helped so much!
Thanks for sharing! I tried speaking with a Functional medical dr, but had not heard of functional neurology.
would you share the name of your functional medicine doctor?
I would love to encounter a truly functional neurologist, it seems all the ones I know are academic. I have had Ahlskog and Ramanan, but they are not as practical in my view.
