It is considered a next-generation probiotic microorganism. Although its mechanism of action has not been fully elucidated, accumulating evidence indicates the important role of A. muciniphila in brain functions via the gut-brain axis and its potential as a therapeutic target in various neuropsychiatric disorders. However, only a limited

And palmitoylethanolamide boosts Akkermansia muciniphila. Good news. Thanks!

But why would PWP already have so much of it? Alpha synuclein in the gut? Gut permeability which causes brain permeability? Why? But back to taking PEA at least.

Maybe we have more of it because we have inflammation and Akkermansia muciniphila lowers inflammation. My guess.

Bolt,

Berberine is an AM promoter and also useful in PD for its many other health attributes.

Very cool. I take 1200 mg of Berberine a day. 400 with first meal, 800 with second. I can't be sure, but I felt different and better ever since I started it.

I know people say to take breaks, but I have not found any documentation on taking breaks so I don't take breaks from it. Thanks!

I understand what you are saying about berberine, from experience. I mentioned it because I remembered you were taking it too.

Thank you very much for an interesting post. Here is a possible supplier : pendulumlife.com/products/p... is very expensive though ($115 a bottle or $74 monthly subscription).

Thank you for the link. I am looking at the website. Please note that PEA which reduces nerve pain promotes the growth of akkermansia. (Disclaimer as always, I’m not a doctor or scientist)

Hi CC,I read about akkermansia and how it can improve your micro biome. One can increase akkermansia by taking cranberries and pomegranates. I started my husband on 2 tablespoons of fresh pomegranate and 2 capsules of cranberry extract 25,000 mg each. (Swisse) Then I realised that I had a kg bag of pomegranate extract (40% ellagic acid) that I had bought from bulk supplements. I put them into capsules and last 2 months hubby has been taking first thing in the morning on empty stomach

1. 1 capsule of pomegranate extract

2. 1 capsule of probiotic by HealthyBiom containing more than 12 active strains

3. 5 tablets of clostridium butyricum by Miyarisan

Result

The daily bloating n indigestion in the afternoon almost gone from 10 being everyday to 2. When he does have any bloating he takes 2 apple cider tablets and it settles it.

The PS 128 that he takes just before bed seems to have a different action as it did not have any effect on his wind and bloatedness.

“Couple tablespoons of fresh pomegranate” as in literally just natural pomegranate? I have pomegranate powder and cranberry powder. I was unaware they both increase akkermansia. That’s great!

I use this one. And their cranberry too.

The review article Bolt posted said that in 16 out of 25 studies of the microbiome of PD patients, Akkermansia was actually elevated compared to healthy controls. So it's not at all clear that boosting it further would be a good thing. And in one of the above links I read that pomegranate extract was not effective in raising it - cranberry extract and Concorde grape extract were effective.
