A while back I had the pleasure of interviewing the producers of the CUE1, a device that uses focused vibrotactile stimulation and cueing to improve movement for people with PD (see link to the video below).
I remember that some of our American participants were asking when the product would be available in the US.
Here is an update from the company that confirms that the US is definitely part of their plans.
Thanks for posting this information from Charcotech. We received an email from them last night about their new venture in the USA.
My husband has been wearing his for about 2 months. He doesn’t get freezing of gait which it says it can help with but it has definitely improved his stride and walking using both heel and toe movements properly. He always found it took a while to get into a good stride, the Cue 1 really has helped with this.
you mean you’ve actually got one?! All they even send me is their latest ‘update’ about progress which never seemed to ever end: a sequence of video tasters that are attractive but they never appear to be ready to sell them. I presumed as I’d signed up with then about 2/3 years ago they’d have sense to make me aware that they’re actually available. I ask you ☹️🙄
Yes!!!! We were on the waiting list, then I contacted them to ask where he was on the waiting list. They emailed back to say we d be contacted shortly, then a few months later emailed again and said it was available.
Might be worth contacting them again by email, we had been on the list for much more than 2 years.
Fingers crossed you get a response. They delivered my husbands in person and he agreed to have have monthly visits to check on his progress and support their research.
"Ok... so... I went on the waiting list in September 2020 and received my CUE1 in early February just gone.
The first couple of days I didn't really notice much difference, then all of a sudden it dawned on me that my balance had improved a lot and that stiffness and slowness were improved too. I don't think it does a lot for my tremor but could be wrong. Everyone is different so don't be put off by this.
If you've got questions, email the team at Charco, they are lovely and very approachable."
Kia . I got the Cue1 today. Not sure what to do with it or should I say WHEN to do with it! Ive got it glued to my chest etc but don't seem to get any sense of timing. Do I leave it on at night? I doubt it but thought id ask the obvious. I find the noise a bit intrusive into daily life: you know we're trying to watch Matt Hancock suffering in the Jungle and this buzzing is putting the family off such a delicious experience. Just let me know how it's gone/going with observations. Thanks. I went on the firms website and they had a Q and A page. One question was 'when should i wear my Cue1?' The answer? 'When you want'. Somehwta nebulus to put it mildly
Glad to hear you received your CUE1. When you receive the device, Charco also sends you an email with all instructions. The email also directs you to their Facebook page where there are dozens of posts about people experiences with the CUE1.
I attach it to upper part of my sternum every day but turn it on when I go for a walk or doing physical exercises. The rest of the day is off. The noise is initially a bit annoying but you will use to it. Turn it off when watching your favourite TV series.😃
hi Jeeves- I only went on the waiting list recently and was offered one within 2 months- still waiting for it to arrive. Think you should contact them.
I live in the United States, and this is the response that I received today from Charco Neurotech (Team Charco ) regarding their CUE1 availability for customers in the USA:
"We are offering the CUE1 to those on our UK waiting list. As a medical device company we are unable to make the CUE1 available to those in the US until we have been approved by the FDA. " Team Charco,
Go to their website, for detailed information on CUE1, and to sign up to their Waiting List: Their website is: charconeurotech.com/
Thank you very much Linda for letting me know. I have received very encouraging feedback about CUE1 from members of this forum and I hope it will soon be available in the US.
A similar device is available in the United States. It has been FDA approved. Ours is ordered and we are now waiting for Medicare to pick up the cost. It is called Cala trio.
