mechanism of action for symbyx laser on gut (and PD) is explained on their website in a few places:1. stimulates energy production (called ATP) in cell mitochondria in gut. (gut is where half of dopamine is actually made - not just brain) 2. laser on gut and neck reduces inflammation by encouraging the metabolism of short chain fatty acids (like butyrate) 3. improves gut brain connection through cell signalling, potentially resulting in increased dopamine production in the brain ,4. PDCare laser on the gut increases gut lining…. and likely helps medication absorption too…
Our neuro physio was given a couple of the Symbyx lasers for their clients to trial for 6 weeks earlier this year.
We had a zoom call with the sales rep who said it produces dopamine and slows progression, so thought we’d give it a go. At the time I didn’t think to ask where is the science behind it.
Unfortunately my husband didn’t find any benefit from using the Symbyx. We’re glad we didn’t spend the money on it.
I am familiar with the product. I have been using one for about 6 months now. This on top of also using a coronet redlight helmet for about two years now (which I have reported on previously). I am now confident of the benefits of both products. I was a bit skeptical that the symbyx laser would do actually anything on top of the coronet and it is also a bit expensive. But I thought it was worth a try anyway ( its only money!). In my case however it has lead to a significant reduction in constipation which was not an affect that was achieved by the coronet. That in itself has been worth it.
The company website is a bit brief on details of how it works but relevant research is available online.
I can provide updated details of what i do, if this is of interest
Because I am using the coronet twice a day, have a regular exercise programme of swimming and am using the symbyx laser on top of that it is a bit hard to determine what causes what effect. However I do believe that the symbyx laser has for me also resulted in a reduction of incidences REM dream enactment (or fighting off the attacking aliens - as my wife calls it) and experiences of smelling phantom odours. The reduction in these effects have only been noticeable since using the symbyx laser for over six months. It takes while to notice that something isn't happening or inst happening as frequently or much at all.
The reductions in constipation, REM dream enactment and phantom odours were not apparent from the coronet use for over 18 months.
My ability to sing has also recently returned to what it was a few years ago. I don't know when exactly when this improvement occurred as I just didn't do it as it had become awful.
The most significant effects of the exercise and coronet use have been a reduction in tremor in both arm and leg, cessation of twitching jaw muscles and cessation of anxiety and improvement of handwriting skill back to what is was a few years ago.
After the first time I used the laser, as per the instructions, which includes use on the back of the neck I thought I was going to vomit like I had heat stroke, which wasn't a great start. But they do mention this as a potential effect in the notes provided with the device. Nowadays I don't maintain it in exactly the same place on the neck continuously but move it about in small movements to change the angle slightly to potentially avoid this effect.
I do take 40% mucuna extract 650mg capsules (Barlowes) and a quarter of a 125mg madopar tablet (both for L dopa) with a Magnesium Threonate capsule all three times day. If I miss the dose of all three it can result in aching legs muscles which I attribute to the lack of Magnesium. I have been taking Magnesium supplements for years for this reason. Mostly I have no noticeable tremor.
On several occasions I have trialed cutting out the Mucuna extract and madopar and do experience a slight increase in tremor.
If I do not maintain the regular exercise programme I do get an increase in tremor.
many of the reports in media say improved sleep and less fatigue are most common symptoms to be helped by symbyx laser on the gut and back of neck… then digestive issues. interestingly it seems to be lot of non motor improvements… but lady in tv news talked about being able to play piano again. and better sense of smell
The only study I found re SYMBYX was conducted by the co owners. (I am not questioning light therapy, just the laser gadget,)

Hi, A functional doctor has recommended the Symbyx for my husband so I am just diving into my research. Have you still used it in the last two years and is it still helping you? Can you tell me how it has helped. My husband has chronic back pain and also he gets very stiff and has mobility issues, freezing, mostly walking issues due to his Parkinson’s. it’s heartbreaking and I would love to see something so simple help him.
I have been using the SYMBYX PD Care for around four months. Overall, the most improvement I have experience is the use of my hands. I can type without the need of Sinemet but of course I still type faster with a dosage. My neurologist told me to keep using it as she has read a lot on the benefits of photobiomodulation.
