I just bought this PEMF therapy mat (pulsed electromagnetic frequency) after learning it treats PD

PEMF is a very interesting therapy that's been around for decades.

This is a 2015 study from the NIH

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

"Conclusions""Electromagnetic therapy opens a new avenue for PD treatment. Each electromagnetic therapy technique described in this review can be applied according to a single protocol or as a combination of different protocols specifically tailored to the PD patient’s needs. Beyond the necessity to choose coil or electrode size and placement, there is a variety of parameters that have to be taken into account when designing electromagnetic therapy approaches and they include stimulation intensity, duration, frequency, pattern, electrode polarity and size.

"Furthermore, electromagnetic therapy can also be combined with pharmacological or non-pharmacological treatments, e.g. physical therapy and cognitive tasks, to produce additive or potentiated clinical effects. In conclusion, electromagnetic therapy represents a non-invasive, safe and promising approach that can be used alone or combined with conventional therapies for the challenging treatment of PD motor and non-motor symptoms."

This is a 2018 study from PubMed

pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/295...

"Effects of transcranial pulsed electromagnetic field stimulation on quality of life in Parkinson's disease"

"Conclusion: Treatment with T-PEMFs improved mobility and activities of daily living scores for clinical effect size only in the active group, indicating a positive treatment response for motor symptoms."

I don't know if PEMF is going to work for me and i'll report my progress every 30 days.

This is what I bought from Amazon has for about $1,100.00.

Before you buy it, ask the seller to send you the directions (like I did).

In the PDF, scroll down to page 3 where it lists all the conditions that this PEMF device will treat. ....And... it tells you that to treat PD ... use it for 20 - 30 minutes daily (each session) and at 20 hz frequency (it is the P1 program that you want to select).

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I only bought this after comparing this to other, far more expensive PEMF mats from Bemer, QRS, and IMRS and MediThera. These cost from $2k up to $8k.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Before you go shopping to buy, watch this very instructional video about the benefits of PEMF.

It's 15 minutes

STAY STRONG!

With over 130 international clinical trials going on right NOW...

A 'MIRACLE CURE' is just around the corner!

Electrical engineer here. The problem with PEMF is the field strength and orientation at the location in the brain that needs to be treated is intimately dependent on the location of the coils and the waveform driving them, and these key parameters are never specified in sufficient detail.

If your setup does help you, PWP wanting to reproduce it should use the identical equipment and settings.

I attended a medical conference for alternate therapies. One guy in the hallway was pushing a PMF device. It looked sorta like a horseshoe. I asked about Achilles tendinopathy since I'd had that for 20 years. In response he had me take my shoe and sock off and wrapped the horseshoe around my heel. Then he sat me at his station and elevated my foot to the table. Then he left and I sat there for an hour trying to answer questions from doctors wandering by interested in PMF. Bottom line is it did nothing for my Achilles pain.

But I assume PMF could affect brain mitochondria, same as red light therapy. Both cause ions to push the Citric Acid Cycle along, generating ATP.

Oops, I meant ATP, not STP.

It is very dependent upon field strength and frequency. I think music is a good analogy – some music is agreeable, some is not. There is a range of volume that is acceptable. Too little and you cannot hear it, too much and it is painful.

I always read the reviews on Amazon before I purchase. I read the one star reviews on the link you provided and I recommend that you do too.

thanks and that's one of the reasons i bought it... it got 4 1/2 stars out of 39 reviews

I recently listened to an interview with a neuroscientist who uses this in his research. He specifically said it’s known to help in depression, and I believe he’s using it for brain mapping. He did not recommend trying it at home yet, as he thought it actually does affect the brain and we don’t understand exactly how and in what ways.

For example this company offers FDA approved treatments for depression but not yet for PD, originalText

That said, this paper really goes into detail about how they applied TMS and the remarkable improvements for PD:

Sorry, my links are a bit hit and miss. Trying again to post the link to the company that uses TMS for depression but not yet Pd in the US: brainsway.com/treatments/pa...

this is the best part: " this method of magnetic

stimulation may be considered an important noninvasive means in the management of idiopathic PD patients."

so it looks like it's a year later. How did it go with the Bemer? I'm considering renting one at 200 per week but with an option to buy. It does force you to rest several times per day which I think itself is good therapy. Maybe there should be a study with 3 groups, those who rest on a Bemer, those who rest on a fake Bemer, and those who don't do either.

if your message was to me (PD Warrior) -- I don't have the "Bemer" -- I bought a different one... i got a really great deal for a brand new on for sale on craigslist ... I tried it for about a month -- every day for 30 minutes -- no change so i stopped

-------------------

my understanding is that the Bemer is far superior technology (around$3000 to $4000 if i remember correctly) ...

you might want to search on this forum for more feedback on the Bemer

I had an exchange with one member who had one -- and it did nothing for him

I will search. But how did this device work or not work for your? The Bemer is way more expensive now, between 6 and 7k! I was considering renting one because when I tried it for a half hour the first time, my tremors stopped almost entirely while I was on it.

that's fantastic! glad to hear you got RESULTS!

First 99.999% of my tremors are internal and mild... I am not officially dx'd with PD.

I used my PEMF matt for about 6 weeks, daily for 30 minutes.

It didn't seem to do anything and I stopped.
