Intervention with dynamic neurocognitive imagery improves disease severity, balance, and gait after treatment. Although the AO intervention is effective, its application together with sonification improves disease severity, balance, spatiotemporal gait parameters, and freezing, in the short and long term. Group intervention with AO improves balance, spatiotemporal gait parameters (speed), and freezing, in the short and long term, with the combination of AO − MI + dual task being the most effective.

Effectiveness of Therapies Based on Mirror Neuron System to Treat Gait in Patients with PD
This was a review of 6 studies designed to improve motor impairment using cognitive exercises. Four of these studies were aimed at remedying freezing of gait. Of the remaining 2, one offered free fulltext here:

But the text only give one example out of many interventions.
Hubby has an appointment with neurologist this week. For what it's worth, I'm going to ask her about cognitive exercises to help him with his freezing and change in getting to a chair. By this I mean he gets close to the couch - about 1-2 feet away and will bend over to hold onto the table. Can take him 10 minutes to reach the couch.
I've been trying to redirect by intervening before he stoops over and guide him to the couch. However, lessons on how to direct him would be helpful to me. Not sure if his image of the couch is changing, his perception of things or if he's having spatial issues. Could be all.
Let's see what the neurologist, who is a movement disorder specialist has to say. So far no different than any other neurologist. Yet, I try to always remain hopeful and positive and a new day may bring new positive things.
An update - we had to postpone neurologist appointment. Hubby got another uti which came on quickly without any signs and put him in the hospital. The good news is getting home physical therapy. Well, let me tell you this PT guy is SUPER. Told my husband his legs are strong. He is NOT weak. It's all about mechanics. We are learning how to get off a chair in the best method for people with PD. We only had it half right.
Gee, now if only our movement disorder specialist neurologist were as good.
hi linda, any updates on the cognitive exercises to help freezing? my dad had dbs a couple of years ago and while it has helped alleviate a lot of symptoms, it seemed to have made freezing worse?? or could be just time, not sure. thanks for any insight!
Tai Chi seems to be helping and also tweaking his HB1 down to 2 capsules daily instead of 3. Hubby feels better each morning after having at least 2 glasses of water to start off his day.
We try to do Tai Chi at least every other day.
wow thats amazing, great to hear. ive been trying to get my dad onto qigong...maybe i'll bring it up with him again. what is HB1? thanks for the reply!
