....Less good than when I was on it. All other variables the same, such as meds, supplements, exercise, etc. Approximately 2 weeks off the keto diet, eating like a regular American person.

Conclusion - for me, I do better on Keto. Can't speak for everybody else or the mice in the labs!

Good information! I need to get back to keto, or at least back to the Specific Carbohydrate Diet (probably both!).

Hi Bass🎶Do you find you eat more protein on this diet? If so, do you have a problem absorbing your Sinemet? (Assuming you are taking some form of levodopa…)

Hi Oceanflow my good friend ! I don't know who came up with the concept of not eating protein with sinemet or Levadopa, but it never bothered me . My neurologist said it has no correlation when I asked him about it , too.I was previously eating unlimited protein on Keto, but now I plan to limit it to about the size of the palm of my hand per day because I want to get skinny.

Bass,

Do you take the IR or the CR sinemet version? I believe the CR is less sensitive to protein but the IR definitely has an issue with protein concerning absorption for a lot of people with PD. It scares me a little that your neuro is unaware of this, watch this guy.

Like I said , it isn't a problem for me. I take both IR and CR.

my PD dr told me the same thing that there's no correlation to sinemet absorption and protein. she said that was an old school idea. i also dont have any issues when i eat protein. FYI

And actually, keto is not a high protein diet. If anything, you have to watch your protein. Keto is a high fat diet!

Same here, Bass. When I break from my low carb diet, as I did this weekend (turkey stuffing, gravy, yams - all organic and GF but HC) I sleep worse, exercise worse, feel worse all around. Nothing to do but get back on the HF/LC track and work out as much as possible. I trained hard today and feel lots better. Be well, my friend - JG

Hi bass, how is your keto diet organized? Makes you lose weight? Thanks

I shoot for 18g carbs for the day. Fasting at least 16 hours. Drink coffee with heavy cream and a scoop of coconut oil in the morning and water all day. Avoid processed food. No artificial sweeteners. Eat something prebiotic such as an avocado. Salad and meat are my staples. Eggs usually on weekends. Cheese is ok. Nuts ok in small amounts. I lost some weight but i want to lose a lot more . For exercise, I mainly do a lot of walking, that's all I can do for now. 1 to 3 miles a day. Hope that helps!!

Here is a study in which the keto diet was found to improve PD symptoms:

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

Yet, doesn't this fly in the face of Dr. Laurie Mischley discouraging meat consumption in PWP? Isn't the keto diet about eliminating most carbs and eating lots of fatty meats, e.g. beef, chicken, etc.? Personally, I feel good when I eat beef, but apparently that has been discouraged by Dr. Laurie Mischley. Who to believe???

Me too!! I feel much better when fasting too. I used to dread fasting but now I experience relief from it and anxiously await my next fast. As a woman I need to time it with hormones or I would fast more often.
