Hot Peppers (Capsaicin) and the Microbiome? Good? Bad?

So I fell off my rigid SCD diet this last week and spent the week eating burritos, tacos, chips, and hot sauce!

This morning, as I felt my intestines churning, I thought "what have all of these hot peppers done to my improved microbiome?", so I did some research.

This, from 2017, looks positive: Gut Microbiota Mediates the Protective Effects of Dietary Capsaicin against Chronic Low-Grade Inflammation and Associated Obesity Induced by High-Fat Diet ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

This, from 2020, is incomprehensible: Study on the Effect of Capsaicin on the Intestinal Flora through High-Throughput Sequencing pubs.acs.org/doi/pdf/10.102...

I like hot sauce, so for now I will likely go with the 2017 study.

I like Habaneros. On the Schofield scale one of the hottest peppers. I read about a guy who ate them mixed with garlic and butter to treat his prostate disease.
