Return to Boxing

Hi All - Looking for opinions. Hubby and I are both vaccinated. One of his PD therapies is boxing (which he has taken a break from due to an unvaccinated boxing coach). He plans to return to boxing, but the instruction has chosen to remain unvaccinated . Hubby plans to wear a mask, and will insist the instructor wear one too. I am I uncomfortable with this. Am I being overly paranoid about the covid risk here?

It is a risk, but how big a risk is it,is your questíon.... Does the instructor and/or a volunteer sanitize all the equipment after each time the equipment is used? And does everyone, including the instructor keep 6 feet social distance away from each other? If these protocols are not followed, I would say there is a pretty big risk. But if your husband wears a mask all the time and so do all the others in the gym then there is less of a risk. Nobody can really say with this all being such a new thing in our lives. Another thing to add to the equation is, besides having PD, how healthy is your husband? Having said all this, I am vaccinated but some of the others at the gym I attend are not and none of us wear masks. So.... this is truly a tough question! We did follow protocols before vaccines and we had about 3 cases of Covid, but none were hospitalized. At least it gives you some things to think about. It's a roll of the dice. Talk to your husband about the protocols I mentioned and see what he says.

Thank you. As it turns out, it was just the two of them. They distanced, but neither wore a mask. We’ll be traveling and staying with a high risk family member this week, so we’ll be tested to play it safe.

If I'd known about the high-risk family member, I would have spoken up. Please research about 'breakthrough' cases and the function of the 'vaccine' (what it is meant to do). Preferred source would be the manufacturer's own information or clinical trials, not public media. If the at-risk person has been isolating, I hope that you'll be giving them an informed choice.

Definitely a personal choice. We are fortunate all of the therapists and almost all of the participants at my Husband’s PD gym are vaccinated. The started again to mandate masks as well due to the surge in the variant. We would be reticent to have him do in person if the instructor was not vaccinated. The tough thing is that he does so much better with in person classes that I would lean to participating but being very cautious on shared equipment and distance.

It seems like if that were the case, 600,000+ Americans wouldn’t be dead because no one would get the virus. Maybe I’m misreading your citing?

I'm not going to bother reading your link because it's too crazy to believe.

I'm not gonna read your link either because you didn't supply one. You just throw random figures out there hoping people would believe them, which I don't.

"The risk drops 25 fold for those who have been vaccinated against those who have not."

I have numerous physicians in my family who would beg to differ. UCLA mandates vaccines for ALL educators AND students. One would think those that make that make decisions for one of the most well regarded places of higher learning in our land, would be sufficiently educated.

Please keep on topic on this strand. It’s veering to the vaccination discussion again.
