This is just something I'm wondering but who has a sore neck, or a neck that takes bugger all to get sore sitting or standing, or a neck that has limited turning ability?
Who here has a bad neck?: This is just... - Cure Parkinson's
Who here has a bad neck?
I have a little bit of arthritis in my neck and it bugs me every once in awhile especially if I've been on my cell phone?
I’ve had a sore neck with very limited turning ability. Most of problem probably result of playing football in high school and college.
I used to have a very painful neck for years. Limited range of motion and more painful to try and turn my head beyond range limit. I always felt the need to try and "crack" my neck and the base of the neck was particularly painful. It was caused by psoriatic arthritis. I have no neck pain any more.

How did u treat it
sue2000,
I use Borax, the laundry booster as I discussed here :
healthunlocked.com/cure-par...
It has kept the PA in remission for over 13 years with none of the pain that previously affected most of my major joints and made my life miserable.

Yes sorry me when I am in bed I have to lie on it ylto get to sleep apparently it is to do with posture and pd
With some simple but continuous practices daily your neck pain will go away. The neck pain is because of messed vestibular system in PD.
Search for Dystonia Recovery Programme by Dr Farias.
Have it sometimes. Sleeping sometimes stresses it in the position I leave it. Have found magnesium rub on to help, or Salonpas, don't know if its true or just my perception but I feel like it helps. Don't know why and don't know if it would help others, I just perceive relief.
Slow stretching sometimes helps.
Acetominophen too, good dose though, 1000 mg. Or naproxen, again a good dose, 600 mg.
This is why I believe posture and glymphatic fluid flow is important. This could tie in with neck pain. I’m sure my husbands neck alignment isn’t right and it might be causing drainage from the base of the head and brain to be affected. Does anyone have “chicken wings” in the top of their back when seated too from sitting with head leaning forward?
I have what has been called “scapular winging “ on my left (affected) side. I previously had frozen shoulder on that side many years pre PD. Which I attributed to dislocating the shoulder while skiing many years prior to that. I’ve been told that winging is caused by scar tissue. I’ve since become aware that some people with PD have also suffered a frozen shoulder previously. I believe it could be related to the postural imbalance caused by PD. I also suffer neck and upper back pain and left shoulder is currently exhibiting the old painful frozen shoulder symptoms. I have lately been taking a homeopathic remedy called Nuxium which apparently is from nutmeg. It hasn’t cured it yet.
Which comes first I wonder. Does PD cause the problems or does the frozen neck and shoulder cause the PD?
This is my line of thought, is an impingement I the cervical area affecting more than what is expected, there are a lot of responses indicates that there is more going on potentially
Yes, I think it’s why yoga and qigong can help. Here is a post I made ages ago about my particular problem. I don’t have PD though.
Yes to the limited turning ability plus i used to get muscule twitching in the neck...seems to be reolved now since starting madopar
I have an oddly sore neck and upper shoulders when I’ve taken too much madapor at one go. Nothing seems to bring relief when that happens.
Yes ive had painful neck, sometimes worse at night.
I have had good results since putting yoga and stretching into my exercise routine.
Constant sore neck and shoulders that never relax. Add to that excruciating neck dystonia when Sinemet is at it's peak sometimes or under stress.
I tried physio for months and months and it just worsened. It is painful to turn my head too far, seems 'clicky and fibrous' when I do and means I never get comfy in bed. Often feel like my neck is too weak to support my head.
I am due botox for the dystonia at some point but Covid means that could be months away.
It does feel like if I could just relax it would be better. Indeed a couple of beers and a bottle of wine and it does improve - bizarrely so does my balance!
How do you check for arthritis?
I have have bad neck most my life. Got rid of pillows and now have a firm shaped pillow that fits curve of neck. Similiar to pic. Cured my neck pain and i sleep better and pillow always correct firmness etc. I even take on holiday 😊
I don't have Parkinson's but do get neck problems and was recently told about Adam Fields. I've only just started doing this one but I found it helped, so I thought I'd post in just in case anyone else wanted to try it youtube.com/watch?v=NLlb2Kd... Cheers
I have problems off and on, but my Rock Steady Boxing class--which I do 4-5 times a week--always does neck stretches that help. I also see the chiropractor once a week.
I have had a bad neck since a bad car accident over 20 years ago. I use a neck pillow now. The other best thing I did for it was I found a registered massage therapist. She was amazing. She knew about trigger (?) points. I still have a sensitive neck and always bring my neck pillow travelling. Cheers!
Bob and Brad physical therapist or Dr Joe physical therapist on YouTube are very helpful on this subject. I've been going to physical therapy also and getting a massage which I find extremely relieving although of course it doesn't last very long. This is a tough one and everything being connected as it is I'm working on my posture and keeping my chin back my head back in the right position so I'm not leading with my chin and throwing everything out of alignment. We tend to do this as we age even without PD. If I don't keep it in the right alignment I end up with the cervicogenic headaches which are very unpleasant so I'm motivated and a little frustrated.
Pay attention to your pillow and how it affects your neck Plus whether or not you are looking down at your phone, laptop or iPad a lot.
Except for the headaches, I agree with Enidah, Massage Therapy, physical therapy, pillow, head position with phones, pads etc. I would add brief 5 to the 10 minute breathing meditation and focus on relaxing the neck.
Me, too. I'm not 100% sure whether it's dystonia from the PD (my MDS thinks so), a permanent crick from using a CPAP, or just what you get from being retired and reading all day on the couch like a bum. I keep meaning to get it looked at, but I never seem to have the patience to add yet another doctor's appointment (and yet another doctor) to the schedule.
I have found the blocked inner ear/watery pressure feeling in my head I have has been relieved by doing stretching of my neck. Then a chinese masseuse said my diaphragm in my chest was stuck and released that by pressing on trigger points. That and rolling on a football with my upper back to try and flatten my upper back hump. This helped me breathe properly and more deeply. I’ve continued the stretching and twisting all down my body as I have always had one side that feels like my leg is shorter on one side (it’s not). Turns out the problems in my neck and head are all improved by stretching at my waist, twisting my back and even stretching my hips. I can actually feel popping sensation in my head when working on my side and legs! We are connected all the way down it turns out. It explains to me what they mean in qigong about opening leg gates etc. even the qigong pummelling of the buttocks and back with my knuckles actually seems to affect the feeling in my inner ear!PS my husband has PD not me, but I have had trouble with my head for a few years.
Have you tried some Bob and Brad exercise Videos on youtube?
Definitely have neck stiffness if I have too much LDopa in my system. If I cut back the pain diminishes by the following morning.
I am currently seeing an osteopath for treatment for a bad neck which occurs especially when sleeping. Massaging has helped and paying attention to pillow when sleeping. Although I have NMD I personally think that it is likely to be arthritis and poor posture related.
i get botox injections in my neck for pain/dystonia......cheers
