BIG and LOUD Program

I am sure many of you have already gone through the BIG program. However, I met with the physical therapist in my area that runs the program today and she asked me to spread the word that NEWLY DIAGNOSED folks with Parkinson’s should actually start the BIG program sooner rather than later.

For those who haven’t heard about it yet, BIG is a physical/occupational therapy intensive program to keep us functional for as long as possible. I’m sure there’s more on the HealthUnlocked site or the internet about BIG if you are interested. There is also a LOUD component to BIG for those with soft voices. I didn’t qualify for that segment because I am a loudmouth! 😜 LOL It’s probably because I sing in the car all the time? Yes, I am that girl!!

I was of the mindset that I wasn’t going to do any physical therapy until I had something to work on. Wrong mindset! Please learn from my error.

I promised her I would pass the word along to all of you and anyone else that I meet.

Here’s the link:

lsvtglobal.com/LSVTBig

My therapist is in WA and is seeing clients in person for the time being.

As someone else mentions down the string, it’s a global organization and you should be able to find a clinician in your area that runs LSTV BIG.

My PT will be working with me 1hr a day, 4 days a week, for 4 weeks. I'm hoping insurance covers it.

they have various practitioners all over canada and the us... they can all be found on the LSVT website! one should find someone closest to where they live, though currently with the annoying pandemic, its all done via video call

Where do you live in Canada? If you live close to the Washington border there is a clinic in Bellingham, Washington which isn’t too far to drive. Just a thought! Of course, the border has to be open first.I really miss my Canadian friends badly!

I just thought of another idea, too! You may want to look into “daily dose for PD“. It’s an online class that incorporates many of the exercises that are scientifically helpful for Parkinson’s and you may be able to do them at home if you have a computer. They offer a free trial so you can check it out and see if you like it before you spend any money. Bonus!

hmmm... I think not all LSVT Big and Loud practitioners are necessarily listed on the site. You may just have to do an internet search in your area? Where in Canada are you?

thanks for the suggestions. I am about a 'short' 8 hour drive from Bellingham, could visit a cousin if the border was open, and then there is the vaccine 'passport issue', but one can still hope.. will check out the 'daily dose'.

Glad we’re “neighbors”! 😁 BIG is one hour a day, four days a week, for four weeks. I don’t think that’s gonna work for you unless you really love to drive or want to move in with your cousin for a month! I live about 45 minutes from Bellingham and I was whining about that! Best wishes for a great evening!

I have been working with PT and OT since August and have seen a tremendous amount of progress. They are neuroPT and OT. PT has beenusing exercises from that program with me. I am planning on starting that program in April or May. They also reccomend Rock Steady Boxing. For anyone living in Pittsburgh, the program will be available at East Suburban Sports Medicine in Penn Hills .
