I am working on creating a list of current and upcoming PD trials that are for disease modifying (slowing.) (Not just addressing symptoms) My intention is to then seek help in deciphering which of those trials is most promising. If anyone already has such a list, please let me know. I do not want to reinvent the wheel. This research is intended to extend beyond my own personal use.
This is now 8 months old and I'm not certain if it is all inclusive.
Maybe I should approach this a different way and identify all of the major players in who facilitates/ conducts trials and get the status of what they are currently doing?
I recommend looking at the hope list too, by Kevin McFarthing, and an article developed for JournalOf Parkinson’s Disease last October which is pretty comprehensive and we are working on an update
That's the same chart I have linked above. You research a lot, what trials do you think show most likelyhood to not be a dead end? And is more not done simultaneiously due to lack of funds, lack of interest, or who knows?
The only trial which gives me some hope is the Kyoto university stem cells experiment. Although it will not be a cure, we will get significant relief from the symptoms for a reasonable span of time. Rest of the trials, I can't say anything
What about the stem cells at Mass General? Do you have an opinion on that one? I need to re-read about the Kyoto trial. I believe it is pluripotent cells but the cells implanted do not come from the recipient of the cells which causes the rejection problem. I also do wonder if someone has the stem cells implanted, when the proteins attack the cells, if having new dopamine cells to attack could potentially reduce the spreading of the brain descruction. Just a hypothesis.
From a time line standpoint, as far as pharmaceuticals go, repurposed drugs are our only hope. What do you think?
