I've been using it to help me sleep for about 2 years. There are some great amino acids like L-Tryptophan, Theanine, Taurine and 5-HTP that help mood and relaxation. I've never had any problems with them and frequently interchange them with Magnesium and Melatonin for sleep. Taurine can be taken during the day as well. Valerian is also good for sleep.

I have used it for a month for better sleep. I found some research papers indicating it might also be beneficial for other reasons for pwp:

"Increased level of extracellular glutamate is a phenomenon associated with Parkinson's disease pathophysiology.

L-theanine bears the potential to attenuate neuronal excitotoxicity due to glutamatergic upsurge.

L-theanine may be an effective medication against long-term L-DOPA induced dyskinesia."

L-Theanine also has the ability to cross the blood brain barrier and inhibit the pro-inflammatory chemokine IL-8 which is at highly elevated levels in PwP in the cerebrospinal fluid. IL- 8 is higher up in the inflammatory cascade and draws other inflammatory mediators and cytokines into action such as TNF-alpha, IL1b and IL-6 causing increased inflammation and oxidative stress in PwP.

Another advantage of L-Theanine, which is mainly derived from tea and less so, from mushrooms, is that it has anti-anxiety and relaxing effects which are both likely to be good for PwP.

Hi, I've just started upping my L-theanine intake due to promising research on PubMed. I'm also taking ashwaganda every day. I drink black tea, which contains L-theainine, though green tea has even more.

L-theanine makes me sleepy if I take too much, so I confine my intake to the evening. Now I'm at about 400 mg per evening. I'll post updates if I find the combination of ashwaganda and L-theanine helpful.
