I was doing some research today, because I take amantadine, and wondered if it would be helpful warding off Covid as an antiviral. Found some encouraging news!

One article stated that people with Parkinson’s who take amantadine and got Covid did not show symptoms and were found to have antibodies.
Funnily enough my husband takes Amantadine and was found to have antibodies when selected for a random test in the U.K. for research purposes.

It is used to treat Influenza A
I take 3 red capsules per day the maximum allowed and have done so for 9 years . So far no visible side affects but I know that you do not just take this medication lightly . If reducing the use it must be done very slowly and you must not run out of it. The possibility of Amantadine poisoning is real. No one should take this unless prescribed and it is started slowly .
I have had no side effects and it has helped with dyskinesia

The Demise.....is an interesting article because the author notes Drs Poskanzer and Schwab wrote an article entitled: “Studies in the epidemiology of Parkinson’s disease predicting its disappearance as a major clinical entity by 1980.”
Though P & S incorrectly predicted the demise of PD, their investigation did bear some fruit:
"Poskanzer and Schwab together initiated the treatment of Parkinson’s disease with amantadine after observing a 58-year-old patient who had symptomatic improvement with the drug which was prescribed to prevent influenza. "
