I have a question about iron. The article says iron is abnormal in PD. I was told I don't have PD ....but ....I suspect I may have MSA. I just got labs done and my iron is so high it's dangerous. Just wondering how common that is. No one has told me how to get it down. I started taking grape seed extract, cranberry extract and curcumin with other herbs in the capsule. I have never seen it that high (264) in my life. It might be linked to atypical Parkinson's or PD. I now wonder if I should try to find a chelation clinic that will deal with it. Any ideas? Does anyone know if I can get the high iron down with chelating supplements?

Your link says in part:

"The programme objective is to complete pre-clinical proof-of-performance of SP-420 in Parkinson's. AbFero expects the small molecule will reverse the accumulation of iron in the brain, reducing iron-related oxidative stress, ferroptosis, and alpha-synuclein aggregation, well-known neuropathological hallmarks of the condition. Removal of excess brain iron via chelation has long been considered an attractive disease modifying approach, but the field lacks a therapy with sufficient safety and proven efficacy."

Donating blood might be a simple solution. I have high iron and genetic markers for hemochromatosis. I donate about 3x per year and that keeps my readings in the normal range.

If you don't mind my asking how high are your iron levels when you feel its unmanageable and do you ever chelate with supplements? Thanks.

My total iron was as high as 280 and % saturation of 97. The blood donations brought those into the high normal range.I was seeing a hematologist for 2 years. There are other parameters that a they look at. When one is high another may be low. It gets complicated. I have not addressed this by supplement chelation. It is just easy to donate. Definitely should be monitored by your physician. It is difficult to point to certain symptoms or relief of such symptoms.

Thank you for the info. Will have to do more research. I dont give or take blood so will look into other chelation....all places here ( one just a block away from home) that do it are closed right now due to social distancing.

My Ferritin was over 1,000. I started having 400 ml of blood removed every month, and after 4 months, the Feritin is down to 400. The upper limit of normal was 200, but now they seem to say 300,

I hope that the iron already in the brain will leave, but there is no proof that this will happen, I can just hope. No improvement in PD symptoms so far, I am on the maximum doe of Madopar, with no side effects, an d I take no supplements,
