Something interesting.

When I had the colonoscopy 2 years ago I noticed all my symptoms went away, including the tremor. The last two days I skipped lunch and my tremor dropped over 50% in amplitude even after I skipped the C/L pill, too.

There is anyone else who noticed that?

Ive experimented a lot with fasting but struggle with the concept of being hungry forever. Sometimes PD seems preferable than this in a bizarre sort of way :(

I’m sure it does, because eating is synonymous with life. Our bodies want to eat and dang it when your body wants food it wants it! I saw a news blurb about a couple who is trying to slow aging by eating minimally. It was actually hard to watch, because they were eating their dinner and each one got like one mushroom and that was it. And they were so excited about it. 😳

Jeeves, very honestly, I've never really understood the concept of fasting (or any form of it as being mentioned in this forum) helping with Parkinson or symptoms of PD, because it's the opposite for me. In my experience... the less regularly I eat, the more stressed my body gets and the more pronounced my symptoms gets. But hey, the world is a very diverse place and we are not clones of each other.. so our bodies do react differently 😃

I bought into the theory Grumpy that our brains had lost the ability to remove the rubbish that healthy brains seem able to do. I take your point and I thought today how crappy I felt having not eaten for 18 hours. But as far as I know, impaired ‘rubbish’ removal is a cornerstone of every neurological disease and Dale Bredesen advocates the last meal of the day to be at 7pm and breakfast to be ideally in the 9/10 am region for his Alzheimer protocol .

Why don't you try intermittent fasting for 18 to 20 hours a day for couple weeks and see what effect that has?

ion_ion profile image
ion_ion in reply toMBAnderson

I can't do that; I'm still working long hours a day. I need energy.

Your meds that you took working more efficiently then? Maybe I should take a small amount of laxative daily as suggested on the last podcast i listened to

I skipped the mid-day medication dose, too.

Its day four that is the telling day I find. Things go great for a couple of days but then it doesnt last. Be interested in what you find.

It was so noticeable how much better I felt after the colon cleanse. Always wondered why and I think it shows food itself is part of the problem or gut reaction to it. I read somewhere people who have eating disorders may have these gut reactions and stop eating as in anorexia nervosa.

Godiv profile image

It seems like most people who’ve had them seem rather worn out by the whole thing, but I did have one friend who said she felt so wonderfully cleansed and light. And I don’t think it was the anesthesia LOL. Maybe it’s kind of like a gut reboot. You clean everything out, but then you go back to the normal gut bacteria balance that you had before. So you return to the same symptoms as your gut replenishes back to its old self. I don’t know sorry. I have no idea what I’m talking about which is probably pretty darn obvious. But I think it’s very interesting you had that effect and it would be well worth it I think to explore it more.

digestion takes up to 40% more energy to the body for food destruction, nutrients absorption and toxins elimination. it is not negligible.my off period with full stomach is worst than with empty one

my meds last less if followed by a full meal

Perhaps colonoscopy had stimulated vagus nerve in your GI area and that is normal to feel better after you have your parasympathetic nervous system being stimulated. Infact , it’s one of the colonoscopy’s side effects that can also cause bradycardia and lowering blood pressure. That’s why abdominal breathing is very important for PWPD.

Grumpy77 profile image
Grumpy77 in reply toKia17

What!?

What's bradycardia and what's abdominal breathing (when and how does abdominal breathing happen)?

Forgive my ignorance 😕

Kia17 profile image
Kia17 in reply toGrumpy77

Bradycardia;

Bradycardia is a slower than normal heart rate. The hearts of adults at rest usually beat between 60 and 100 times a minute. If you have bradycardia your heart beats fewer than 60 times a minute.

Abdominal breathing:

Diaphragmatic breathing, or deep breathing, is breathing that is done by contracting the diaphragm, a muscle located horizontally between the thoracic cavity and abdominal cavity. Air enters the lungs, the chest does not rise and the belly expands during this type of breathing

Grumpy77 profile image
Grumpy77 in reply toKia17

Thank you for explaining those definitions. If I get you correctly abdominal breathing is another name for diaphragmatic breathing which is also deep breathing

Thanks

It can be divided into 3 points; diaphragm, abdominal and below bellybutton . The best approach is to use these 3 parts while using abdominal breathing so vagus nerve will be activated in different places of abdominal cavity.

A few years ago I briefly had a case of the runs...well after it subsided I was completely symptom free for a few hours...maybe I' ll live dangerously and try experimenting with laxatives.

Perhaps your diarrhea allowed the gut to temporarily and significantly reduce a gut borne pathogen that was causing problems. Diarrhea is one way that the body can attempt to expel an unwanted pathogen.

Interesting...Neuro was mentioning that constipation is very common in Parkinsons...everything slows which can impact effectiveness of meds...told him to eat kiwis, which he likes, yeah...

Interesting. Hubby needs one of these but I thought his tremor would get worse undergoing this procedure. Oddly, he has a kidney stone, which is very painful, doc prescribed oxycotin which has eliminated his tremor...but also very addictive and not recommended for more than a day or so...but interesting. Stops the anxiety which often makes tremor worse for him. Trying to earn a living with all this going on is beyond challenging. Working from home is actually a blessing for him. He is over weight which I feel is very bad for Parkinsons, mobility is hard enough without a lot of weight to carry around with you.

Hi, Worth a try. He eats nothing all day. I go to bed early and he eats in the middle of the night...crackers, cheese, dips, and he is soooo thirsty all the time, maybe from the meds but water doesn't cut it apparently. Parkinsons is enough to deal with, I can't imagine another big health issue which is inevitable with this unhealthy diet. Ughghghghh....

Oxy will only relieve pain, but does nothing for kidney stones. Chanca Piedra at label dosing will break up the stones to a size that can be passed easily.

Hi, Understood. He is off the pain meds and feeling much better, not sure if he passed stone...follow up test next week. Has another med to break up stone as well. Read something about apple cider vinegar helping with this....Thank you for feedback

Chanca Piedra is more effective for kidney stones than ACV.

Helpful, thank you!

Fasting or eating foods with low glycemic index may be the key. We may all be type 2 diabetics and it is presenting as PD.
