Good one, Roy, and so very true...

When there is a will, there is a way.

In my humble opinion, there will never be a cure for Pd or any other chronic illnesses. It does not pay the Pharmeuticle Industry to spend huge sums of money in looking for a cure, which would only be needed once, whereas they make a fortune out of treating the symptoms of chronic illnesses, which last a long time.

You hold this view despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

Which evidence?

in reply to Trixiedee

The billions of dollars in current investment into a cure, and the market demand for the same.

Arent you going to pay 40k for a procudure that isnt a cure? How much would you pay for an actual cure?

Most PD drugs are off patent. There isnt actually that much money in them.

I spent a lot of money on FUS which is as close to a cure as I’ve come and Big Pharma didn’t get a penny.

in reply to Trixiedee

Which is my point. People are prepared to spend a lot of money on a cure. Which is why john's point about there being no money in a cure is wrong.

I think it’s highly unlikely that Big Pharma will find a cure. I don’t think western medicine knows how to deal with chronic health issues.

in reply to Trixiedee

I dont know why you invoke 'big pharma'. There's a lot of investment into curing neurodegenerative diseases, including PD. Some of it is from what you might call 'big pharma' and some isnt.

As for western medicine, i'll just note that it wasnt a TCM practitioner that invented focused ultrasound.

No, it wasn’t, and I don’t think FUS is a cure. But the procedure I had is only being practiced by one clinic in one country. I’m also not convinced that the covid vaccination is the answer as it takes several years to test vaccinations and medications for safety.

Pharma is immune from litigation re vaccines, so feels no pressure to test them. Millions are paid in compensation for faulty vaccines, not by pharma, but by the taxpayer. In the USA at least.

Can you think of one vaccine or medication that has been found for a chronic disorder?

It's amazing that Coronavirus has only been around for a few months and they are talking about a virus being ready in December!

Can you explain that?

John, what about polio?

Polio KIlls, whereas Pd does not!

in reply to JohnPepper

PD definitely kills. Essential tremor might not.

WE will have to agree to differ on this one

Coronavirus vaccine is not a CURE yet. We don't even know how long protection against getting Covid-19 will last. A month? Two months? And there simply isn't any comparison to be made to the ease with which an infectious disease with a single known cause can be attacked, versus development of a treatment for a chronic brain disease. To date, looking across neurology and psychiatry (both of which deal with brain diseases) and disorders which have multiple and complex causes, there has not been a single 'cure.' We still know so little about the brain. I hate to be discouraging, but we need to be realistic. My hope, after living for 11 years with PD, is that there is more development of treatments which improve quality of life (side effects of meds, dyskinesias, On and Off periods, cognitive decline) while living with PD.
