Israeli researchers have noted a possible connection between coronavirus infection and the early onset of PD based on this case.

A case of probable Parkinson's disease after SARS-CoV-2 infection (The Lancet article)
Very interesting. Very intriguing. Especially the specific group of symptoms, the caudate images, and the response to pemiprexole and the akineton. I wonder if the patient ever really improved or got worse...and hope they monitor the patient over time, maybe long time.
Pretty rapid decline, too. Unreadable handwriting after 9 days 😳
Ugh.
Nice article. Thanks for sharing.
Well, so far we have chemicals, viruses and hereditary causes among the reasons for the Parkinson's affliction that we in this forum suffer from. Wonder what more culprits are out there. We were the grossly unlucky ones who got caught in the crossfire.
I don't know how the majority of the human population has been lucky enough to dodge this seemingly insidious condition. If the estimates of 10 million of us afflicted among the worldwide population of 7.8 billion is to be believed as accurate, then we must be the truly unfortunate.
However, there are predictions of a Parkinson's pandemic in the near future and maybe that is the reason for the rapid development in recent years of new medications such as sublingual Apomorphine and newer surgical approaches such as Artificial intelligence driven DBS and FUS.
Yes, unfortunately we are surrounded by a sea of pathogens which can bring on a host of debilitating diseases, however when suffering from severe atrial fibrillation for about a year and eventually treating it with cardiac ablation (which I absolutely dreaded after reading about potential side effects), as strange as it may sound I found myself longing for days when I had to deal with PD only
Parkinson's takes years to develop -- assumption because it takes years to progress -- couldn't just suddenly lose 80% of dopamine producing cells followed by 10-20 years progressing. Sounds unlikely.
Hi Patrickk, not so fast. Parkinson's or like condition can be induced overnight. Please see my latest post on the subject with a link to a well written story.
Hello pdpatient. If you will be a little patient with me I will drop my cut-and-paste item -- which I drop wherever I can.

Bydureon, a repurposed Type 2 Diabetes drug is now in third-stage trials in UK for stopping Parkinson’s in its tracks — results expected 2023. Testing — mice, open label, double blind — has been going on for 10 years and it has been positive every time.

According to a very sensitive test, Homeostasis Model Assessment for Insulin Resistance (HOMA-IR), 2/3 of Parkinson’s patients are supposed to be insulin resistant. IR may be treated with Bydureon (Exanatide). Just an angle that might get us one step closer to Bydureon.

I have found some symptom relief (don’t have very bad case) with Tumeric & black pepper (pepper makes it bioavailable) — recommended by a doctor.

I just got off B6 (100mcg) -- which seems to be about the only dose available. Boy did it make a big difference. I ran into the post below on "Journey With Parkinson's. Had to read it four-five times -- by a biochemist.
[quote] I started taking a supplement that had relatively large amounts of complex B vitamins (specifically the one labeled number two below) had 100% (400 mcg) folate, 1667% (100 mcg) vitamin B12 and 5000% (100 mg) of vitamin B6 (based on daily requirement from our diet). Over a period of several days I started feeling stiffer, weaker as if my medicine had stopped treating my Parkinson’s. I especially noticed it one day while playing golf because I had lost significant yardage on my shots, I was breathing heavily, and I was totally out of sync with my golf swing. Just in general, my entire body was not functioning well.

[quote] The older literature says taking more than 15 mg of vitamin B6 daily could compromise the effectiveness of carbidopa to protect levodopa from being activated in the tissues.
