Here are his results. Eek. Other results were zero.
So today I did a deep clean of the bedroom , new pillows, washed bedding, vacuumed under and behind everything, cleared bags etc in bottom of wardrobes and removed most things to garage and wiped everything down with white vinegar.
Bought new dust mite vinyl covers for mattress and pillows, and air purifier that removes spores, dust, and voc and have had that going all day. The air smells fresher. Hopefully new stuff doesn’t off gas but if it does the purifier should remove it.
What else should I do?
We’ll see if he feels any better after all that!

I think Ochratoxin a (OTA) is often food borne. Did they test his kidney function? Melatonin may be useful in protecting the kidneys and significantly reducing the oxidative stress caused by OTA.
You may find this page useful in your cleaning efforts. Ammonia looks likely to be useful.
I’ve just asked GP for kidney function test but haven’t heard back from him. This mycotoxin test I had done through a natural practitioner Via zoom so no other bloodwork. I’m being tested now for it just in case although I have been in a different bedroom at the other end of the house for about 12 years now since he used to thrash around , snore and generally upset my sleep every night.
If it’s food we eat similar food but he tends to get into the nuts etc more than me. We eat a fair bit of dried things since we changed to a more whole food diet but his hand problems and other symptoms started well before the diet change and prior to that we ate a lot less nuts, seeds, porridge , rice, dried beans etc.
I’m thinking it the room as after the earthquake damaged our house we had to have all the lathe and plaster wall linings replaced with dry wall so there was a fair bit of dust and potentially the old plaster has Mold from historic leaks although I didn’t notice any. Also the floor is wooden boards and close to the ground so we have not been able to put a moisture proof layer on the dirt ground below or insulate the underside of the floor. The dirt is pretty dry though. He does always start feeling worse like clockwork at the end of autumn so I have thought it was daylight saving and reduced daylight hours but maybe it’s a stage in a Mold life cycle suddenly releasing the toxins that make him sick.
He has complained of feeling sick and fluey for years now in a cycle of about 23-27 days. This started a few years prior to diagnosis. Maybe Mold related?
Yes just oatmeal, but a bit of coffee. He used to eat toast for breakfast before he was diagnosed so that’s wheat, but gluten free now. It seems to be on lots of dried goods and we eat more of that now too and organic, but I wonder if organic is worse for Mold?

After the start of the rainy season?

Regarding mold - in case you have not already done so, black mold at the inside corners and edges of bath or shower can be a eradicated using a fresh bleach pen.
Thanks. I've seen some articles saying don't use bleach as it only removes the surface and leaves the roots which grow back stronger. I've no idea if that's right? I don't actually see any mould anywhere so if there is any it must be in dust from removing old plaster or vapours from under the house. Christchurch is very dry so we don't get humid rainy seasons but yes, the temperature starts falling about then and there is a bit of rain.
As to not getting down to the root of the problem – I have no idea what would be more powerful than bleach when it comes to removing mold.
In dry areas, when the rain finally does fall, there is a burst of spores from the local wild fungi, which can exacerbate asthma and perhaps cause other problems.
Yeah maybe it’s coming from outside under the house although it isn’t at all damp under there. Today’s job cutting back shrubs around house and clearing any leaf mould.
I would try melatonin with colloidal silver (AgNPs) and borax for myself, but I can't recommend it because there are no human studies to support such use.
Thanks, is this for taking or cleaning? What do you do with borax?
He’s taking the Now melatonin 5mg x1 per day At the moment. The natural practitioner is putting him on camomile tincture and increase his glutathione and he already takes NAC. She said that it is toxic if processed through the kidneys but otherwise it binds to albumin in the blood and won’t excrete so it is important not to hit the kidneys with too much at once and to try and excrete through stool
The 5 mg of melatonin is a start, but it will take more to neutralize the oxidative stress on the kidneys to protect them and the 10 mg study in PwP confirms that melatonin is beneficial for PwP also. Keep in mind that a lot of the damage done by OTA is via elevated oxidative stress and melatonin is the most potent antioxidant in the body, but is very depleted in a person over 50 and in PwP.
In myself I would use AgNPs to attack it in the blood, but again no human studies to confirm so I can't recommend. I would use it for myself based on my experience using AgNPs and a very good safety profile in humans.
Borax I already take to keep my severe arthritis in remission for well over 12 years now. Borax is a broad spectrum antifungal and mold killer. Does he have arthritis?
No arthritis but I have achy body in the mornings. I have also got this weird head thing going on which I have described before which seemed to start as a sinus infection I think or after a tooth extraction which were both around the same time. It is a constant feeling of fluid draining in the back of my throat so maybe Mold related too? That’s been going on for 2 years now but doctor just says it’s anxiety! It’s not!
Long standing sinus infections can result in sinus pathogens that are protected by biofilm. The nasal spray "Xlear" might help as it contains xylitol which can breakdown some biofilms with regular use. Here is a link to the product :
I know all about mold! We had water damage, first floor, and we got to replace the wooden floor a year later! He had treatments for mold. The last two tests were negative.
It doesn’t have the xylitol but the grapefruit extract is interesting. I have some of their GSE in my cupboard . I found one at the local pharmacy that has xylitol so I wonder if I could put a drop of GSE in it or if it is too strong. Mine has tea tree oil, xylitol etc
Thanks. It’s just really expensive to ship here from amazon and I can’t find it here . We have to convert to NZD which is nearly double. I have some GSE from nutribiotics so I could add a drop to the fess one which has xylitol.
We had professionals replace the floor and special treatment for the mold. It took them a little over 2 months to finish the project. Our insurance sent a team of specialists to check for any mold remnants.
Gosh I don’t think he would survive that. He can’t cope with even the slightest disturbance. But I can’t see mould and we haven’t had any water leaks but it is an old house and who knows what’s happened before we owned it.
LAJ, the first floor was flooded. I had a hose attached to an outside tap, attached to the living room's outside wall. I left to visit my son for the holidays, and during that time, it got very cold with freezing temperatures (not supposed to be happening in the southern states ). The water froze in the pipes and burst. When I came back, the whole floor was flooded. I mopped the floor, but water was there for about a month and a half, enough to cause molded walls and floors. I called the insurance, and I made arrangements with the professionals to come and eradicate the mold. It took a long time to make it happen as my husband was diagnosed with carotid artery stenosis at that time and had to be operated immediately. Everything went wrong at that time, and I handled it all by myself, no help from anyone!
Our house is only 5-years old, brand new when we bought it.
Hi there, I had a similar problem as you. I couldn't even use my hearing aids, as my ears were blocked. I have been using Fess for months and the problem has finally almost gone. My GP suggested using it in the shower (which is where I keep it).
So since I already have this amino acid complex could I give him that first to use it up as trial or is the boron in it in a form that won’t work? It’s only 3 mg though so obviously much weaker as you point out.
Since you already have it and he has tolerated it well up to this point you might as well use it up. The other ingredients in it may help him.
I took boron at 3 mg and 6mg everyday and it did absolutely nothing for my arthritis. I take borax at approximately 985 mg per day (male dosing) for arthritis and it has been in remission for over 12 years. Borax is 11.339% boron. So 985 mg borax x .11339 = 112. 1915 mg of boron. So I take approximately 112 mg of boron per day and the dose for a woman would be half of the dose I take or 56 mg of boron per day times 4 days of the week for a total of 224 mg of boron per week for women and 448 mg of boron per week for men, which is what I am taking for over 12 years. Some people require less boron/borax to achieve benefit.
The following link discusses soil content of boron and its relationship to arthritis and other health issues.
This is all information which I have gotten from the internet and has been there for at least 20 years. I have had no apparent ill effects from taking this amount of borax for over 12 years. That is my experience with borax.
Great. I haven’t actually used it. I must have bought it after reading something ages ago but he is on plenty of other things and it never made it to the front of the queue for a trial.
The other thing is the Mould isn’t necessarily growing in him, it’s the mycotoxin that was measured so if that’s the case we need to get rid of the source off the mycotoxin from food and environment, and then clear the toxin from his body. I’m not sure how to test if he actually has live mould growing in him.
Borax is very good for killing mold, but not mycotoxins. So it is useful for cleaning purposes as a saturated solution and paste. To deal with the mycotoxins themselves, see link at bottom.
For mold detox the book “Surviving Mold” by Ritchie Shoemaker is the gold standard in my opinion. In 2016 my wife and I did a 6 month course of treatment with a naturopath who used Shoemaker’s methodology. I can go into the details of our experience, DM me if you’re interested. But bottom line I think the treatment should probably be supervised by a health care professional.
For mold remediation of your home, look into Chlorine Dioxide. It’s a gaseous substance which kills mold and mold spores. It’s an industrial chemical used in water purification. I’ve found it to be very useful. Feel free to DM me about that as well. Mold detox and remediation can take some time and effort. Be patient. Best of luck - JG
Yes I saw that so that’s why he had it done. Very interesting isn’t. Makes you wonder if it is the cause. I’m having mine tested too to see if I’m also high.
Yes I watched that before deciding to get him tested so good to rewatch it. He also has the gliotoxin which sounds nasty. I am interested to find out if I have it too. It takes a month for results to come and I’m waiting for my kit to arrive by courier so will keep you all posted.
