Does anybody know if you shouldn’t take coffee while taking high dose B1? I’ve never read this from Dr. Costantini’s guidelines, but the issue recently surfaced. Is it just coffee or any caffeinated beverage? Does the coffee deactivate the B1? Thank you!

Coffee and B1 Therapy?
Regular coffee is a no, so are fruit juices, soda, tea. I'm not sure about decaf. Roy Prop, Chartist, and Glo Cas would know. Infact Chartist has compiled reams of info on B1.
I believe you may be able to have any preferred drink though an hour prior, or after to taking B 1. I think most use water. Since they are so big I chew mine, and drink water.
Tenafterten,
No citrus juices such as orange, grapefruit or lemon juice etc. were the only ones that Dr. Costantini suggested as a no with the B-1 dose. The other one is alcohol. Dr. C said that a glass of good quality wine is okay, but excess alcohol is a definite no. Alcohol uses thiamine up fairly quickly and that would be counterproductive plus it is fairly hard on the system and can increase oxidative stress which PWPs are already burdened with in excess. Here is a link to info about HDT/B-1.

I read your reply first as no alcohol at the same time as B1. I thought, who’d drink alcohol at breakfast!
Yes, I definitely could have written that better. Alcohol intake is for the "whole day" as the alcohol depletes thiamine. One of my PD friends told me that he pays a price everytime he gets carried away with drinking, so he had to cut way back on any drinking.
The citrus juice is just not to be taken near the thiamine and I think the reason is because it can affect absorption of the thiamine and make it more difficult to maintain whatever your specific dose is.
