Facial flushing/blushing

A week ago I woke up with uniformly very red cheeks and forehead. Since then, my cheeks and nose have been variably red, especially when I wake up in the morning. There is no itchiness or heat but the skin seems a bit puffy and there is a little flaking. I’m taking C/L 25/100 five times a day and have been on medication for 2 1/2 years. Is facial flushing a symptom of PD? Or a side effect of C/L? Or unrelated?

My face does that sometimes when I first get up. But not as much as it did before I had the stints put in at my heart. A thorough medical exam by a general practitioner MD may be timely, he can determine a course of action and get the necessary tests and send you to the right specialist. The older GP's get pretty good at this.

Thanks, Gymbag. I’ll go to my GP if it doesn’t resolve soon.

Have you looked up Rosacea? It's not PD related & it usually isn't flakey but it causes redness on the nose and cheeks. You might want to check it out?

It is more common in people with PD. I find that cortisone cream cleans it up quickly.

I think Laglag is right. Sounds exactly like it. My dad and I had it as well. As I recall I think an antibiotic clears it up.

Thank you for the reply. I will keep rosacea in mind, although so far it doesn’t seem typical.

A dermatologist will tell you it’s actually quite common.

Spottedtowhee,

If it turns out to be rosacea, quite a few people report treating it with 1% hydrogen peroxide and borax. Google it to find how people use it for rosacea. A word of caution on the hydrogen peroxide, the bottles at drug stores are almost always 3% and 3% HP can be harsh on the skin, so it would need to be diluted.

No no not the borax.... heard terrible stories on this ... way too harsh on an already sensitive skin. I have had Rosales on and off and only thing to help is minocy line a low dose anti bio. Takes a few months to help... and then can some back if I stop taking after it clears up.. sorry just had to comment.

My husband had rosacea for many years. He has got rid of it by eliminating sugar and gluten and taking berberine and allimed garlic extract alternating with probiotics, week about.

My dermatologist says I have rosacea. To me it looks like a mild sunburn. It comes and goes. I also have flaky skin behind my ears and sometimes on my eyebrows. He said that's seborrheic dermatitis. A dandruff shampoo should be able to help clear that up.
