Hi, good old Chloroquine is an antimalaria drug which was currently used in a small study to treat covid 19 patients in France, and it showed promising results.According to the USA president;s press conference recently,he wants the FDA to avoid all traditional procedure that usually cause delay in approving the drug for public consumption, and declare it safe for use.Mind you Chloroquine like every other drug has it's side effects, and its safety in wider population has to be considered.I happened to have used the drugs before, when I contacted malaria while visiting the tropics many years ago,and one common side effects,is that it causes itching of the skin. The drug also have a serious side effect on vision. I think what is good for the Goose is good for the Gander.

Please do you have any details of the new study? Where? Who? Etc. It would be good to be able to follow that up.

I do not know about the European trial that was supposed to begin on last Friday, but there is this :

clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show...

in the US.

China also studied Chloroquine for COVID-19 but doctors here ( France) say the conditions of that trial were not statistically valid. Remember, they were fighting a war...

Edit - Some hospitals in France began giving Chloroquine to COVID patients, without waiting for a green light from HAS (Haute Autorité de Santé, the central health authority)

Yes I used it decades ago when I was travelling in Asia and I got a terrible skin rash that itches like mad. Since then I can never spend long periods with my skin exposed to the sun or the rash reoccurs. But a result is I look at least a decade younger than

others my age!
