My doctor told me that the results of the FIT test at home came back positive so I need to schedule a colonoscopy.
Can you please share your experience with this procedure and whether I should be worried. Any extra preparations that you have done for this procedure?
Thanks in advance.

I had it in June 2019 without any issues. I told them I had PD and they say everything would proceed like for everybody else. I already put last year a post with some interesting facts. I do not recall if I had to stop the C/L for a day but call them in advance and asked.
Anyhow, after emptying my digestive system all the PD symptoms were gone till I filled it back. The actual procedure took 25 mins. Fortunately everything was clear 100%.
Make sure you follow the instructions they mail to you.
The test itself is a piece of cake. Of course I was knocked out so what do I know. The prep beforehand is the uncomfortable part but honesly they have really improved the cleaning out your gut part with drinking the prep. My only issue was sleeping the night before. They want you to drink the second dose of meds a couple hours before the procedure. Mine was scheduled at 8am and I was to be there with my designated driver at 7am. So I should have woken up and taken the last prep dose at 5am. I took it at 2am instead and slept until 6am.
Nothing to it. Don’t worry. The prep is the only uncomfortable part. I believe I was able to continue my c/l just as you would a heart medication. Just follow the instructions carefully and you won’t have any problems. Best wishes!
Before there was colonoscopy there was barium enema. I have had three. There was also sigmoidoscopy. I had two of those. I have also had three colonoscopies. They are much easier to take than the other procedures. Made no problem for my PD. But make sure you follow instructions for day before. Gotta go in with clean colon.
The prep is the worst part as the others have mentioned. You'll need to fast and the prep solutions will give you many runs to purge you out. Other than that you'll be just fine so don't worry too much.
My husband was on coumadin and also has Afib so he had to give himself shots in the stomach twice a day for a few days before and then after the colonoscopy. To keep him from internal bleeding. The colonoscopy part of the issue was fine as was the prep - stopped there! For some reason not known to us it took almost a year for his INR level to get back where it belonged. It was unbelievable to say the least. A real nightmare BUT he had these two issues which most people don't have. I think he was unusual to say the least - his LAST colonoscopy and now he's on Eliquis so no more coumadin - a Godsend for sure! Good luck with your colonoscopy know it'll be a breeze for you!
