My first experience with Magtein, ie, Magnesium-threonate, by Now Foods. Anecdotal report. Tiredness, motor function continued.

Yesterday morning I took a capsule at 5:30 am. At 7 am, ate my regular breakfast: five egg whites pureed. Before long, I was extremely sleepy. All morning and much of the afternoon, I remained very tired.

However, during these hours, my motor skills remained functional, may have improved a wee bit.

Has anyone else had a similar experience? Quite similar? Or similar but different?

Today, I'll take a Magtein capsule just before supper.

Will I have motor function in morning?

Last night I slept better than i have been.

I do NOT have PD. I am the mother of one lost to PSP. Silvestrov use to help me with my son and now me (when I ask for his guidance).

I am 79 and will be 80 at towards the end of this year. I take one SMARTMAG and one Swanson CHINESE SKULLCAP about a half hour to 45 minutes BEFORE going to bed. I have doing this since early 2017.

Certain forms of magnesium are more relaxing than others. Magnesium L-Threonate and Glycinate are both very relaxing and promote sleep, so I prefer to take those forms before sleep.

If you're under stress or have weak adrenal function, sudden increase in magnesium could stress your adrenals which are regulated by the relationship between sodium and magnesium. Try increasing salt (natural/Himalayan salt, not table salt) depending on your diet and your BP status. Also try supplementing Zinc if you suspect a deficiency and your tiredness doesn't alleviate.

Please be careful with zinc. See my post below for detail.

Does the tirednes I experienced after taking 1 Magtein capsule diminish (lessen, ameliorate) a days pass and more capsules have been ingested?

It should be relaxing but normally you shouldn’t feel exhausted and out of energy, unless your body is suddenly adjusting from a deficient state and trying to heal. The same could happen with B1 and Mg is one of the required cofactors. Give it about a week and see if it gets better. For adrenal support, also look into Ashwaghanda then if my earlier suggestions don’t help. Be sure to drink adequate water.

I've been taking the NOW Magtein for almost a year , per the instructions on the bottle: taking 1 around 5pm (with my supper), and 2 at bedtime. I'm not sure of it's effect on my motor function, but it seems to help set the stage for better sleep.
