Some people find that D-Mannose ( the main active component in cranberry juice) is quite helpful for E coli based UTI's (the most common bacterial cause of UTI's) without the potential for side effects that are sometimes associated with antibiotics. Here is a link to common Ciprofloxacin side effects:

D-Mannose binds to the bacteria thereby preventing the bacteria from sticking to the surfaces of the urinary tract allowing the bacteria to be flushed away when voiding. Another advantage to D-Mannose is that the bacteria does not become resistant to it because of this particular method of action. Here is a link to typical D-Mannose supplements :

Take a look at the reviews for the Now brand products as there is a very high number of reviews at a high percentage which gives a good idea of just how effective D-Mannose is for the purpose!

Cranberry has also been shown to reduce the incidence of UTIs. There are multiple versions of supplements with cranberry extract plus D- mannose. Avoid the sugar laden "cranberry cocktail".

This is a specific supplement often recommended by urologists for UTIs. Believe there have been some clinical studies using it showing it can help reduce UTIs.

UTIs are common with PD. So is the urgency to urinate. There are medications that can help with the urgency part of the problem. I have difficulty getting through the night; I have a commode next to my bed for night time. I also carry extra supplies with me when I go out. Fortuntely, I have family and friends who are sympathetic to my problem
