Planks?

Two years on meds for MS and PD, I no longer have a six-pack or 4-pack or 2-pack. I'm trying to exercise but not making much progress. I'm concentrating on core work. I do planks til pain in my forearms and neck tell me to quit it. Anyone know the record for planks? My best is 2 minutes, 50 seconds. Tonight I managed 6 planks while watching NCIS. 2:40 for the first one, then 2:20 then 1:50 then 1:10 then three more all at 60 seconds. I do other things for my core but I'm focused on planks because I hate doing them. I keep meaning to buy one of those ab wraps that deliver an electric shock causing the Rectus Abdominus to 'crunch' every 10 seconds.

Different topic, anyone watch the TV show, Ray Donovan? One of the main characters has PD, a serious case. He walks with a cane. I can't tell whether the actor really has PD or is he just a good actor? Maybe he takes a PD boxing class; In one scene he knocks a guy out with one punch. In another scene he's hobbling along in a parking lot when a car tries to run him down and he takes off like an Olympic sprinter.

Home alone, dinner was leftovers from the office Christmas party earlier today.

Other than small weights, I use weight machines. With PD I figure it is safer than bar weights. Avoiding tearing muscles, I now do one set of thirty reps. With PD we also need to think of safety in exercise.

Last year I had a blood clot in my shoulder. There's a short list of reasons for this but none of them applied to me except the last one: Excessive weight lifting. So nowadays I keep the weights about half of what I used to lift.

I like dining on leftovers, gives me a feeling of freedom.

Being alone with PD... that's different.

I love your last sentence. Telling a lot with very few words...

Whoa. Those are amazing plank times. I hope your office had better Christmas party good than the cardboard pizza we got! Btw, transversus abdominus may be more important for core strength than rectus. Or just often neglected. Thanks for the inspiration. Plankspiration! Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah to all who celebrate either!

I watch Ray Donovan. Eddie Marson, who plays Terry, does not have Parkinson’s.

I spoke to a researcher from Upstate Medical Center (NY) who mentioned that strength and tone diminish with PD, but none the less ya gotta still keep working out

Thanks for all the comments. My MIL has metastasized cancer and is in hospice. My wife flew to Connecticut and now I guess is waiting for the end. So my staff knew the xmas party was mostly about food for me. I hate grocery shopping.

Time for humor: I used to have a 6 pack; now I have a keg!

Suggest you have a blood test for COQ-10. Very important for muscle development and as I have heard is usually low in Parkinsons patients. Especially if taking Statins (which is a whole other story).
